Console Crazy or Flash Fanatic?

Sun, Oct 26, 2008

I hold no illusions to the fact that I am a casual gamer. While I have spent time behind the wheel of many an MMORPG, I have no desire to have two jobs. I own two consoles (Wii and PS3 for those keeping score), and lack a third because I refuse to pay a monthly access fee on something I will not use that often.  That last point may gain the ire of 2/5 of you (estimates on overall console ownership, not a proven number, but what fan-boy cares about facts anyhow?).  Tough.  Where was I…

The debate is on consoles versus browser-based (99% Flash, for the sake of this article) games. Read more after the break.

woot!

woot!

This DEAL-A-DAY website can be summarized in 1 word. RANDOM.

Every night at midnight US-Central time (1am EST, 11pm MST, 10pm PST), Woot.com posts a new item that is up for sale.

What do they sell at woot? Random things. But mostly random tech things.
Are the items they sell new or refurbished? It can be randomly either or.
How much stock/quantity of an item on sale? A random number.

The site also sells Random Bags of Crap for only $1 each (max 3 per person). Whats in a Bag of Crap? Random things. It is rumored that 3 people received a Wii and 1 person received a big screen tv.

On random days woot.com will do, what is called, a “woot-off.” This is when they temporarily the way the site sells random things.  Instead of waiting for midnight US-Central time, you just wait for the current item up for sale is sold out. If that item current item does not sell out, then it will be changed after 12-hours. How long do Woot-Offs last? Random lengths. Sometimes 24 hours, sometimes 72. You just wont know until the lights are no longer there.

Try the site.  If you get something you like for a great price, let us know!

Blizzcon: Worth the $100 Price Tag?

Blizzcon Logo

The 3rd annual Blizzcon has come and gone. I’ve been to only the 2007 Blizzcon and had somewhat of a good time there. From the news I’ve been hearing on other gaming sites and blogs, there wasn’t much news this year as last year. Seems like all the big news stories about future Blizzard titles were already unvield at previous gaming expos this year.

The only big news from Blizzcon 2008 was the Wizard class for Diablo 3. Nothing much else. I was really hoping for either a release date/quarter/year for Starcraft 2, or more news on the Warcraft live action film.

From my 2007 experience, I was able to walk the con from one end to the other in minutes. Yes, they only had 2 halls, but there wasn’t that much to do. If you wanted to try WotLK or Starcraft 2, at the time, you only got 15mins to sit and play it, then go back in line. For my 15mins with WotLK, my group was able to get to the entrance of the first instance, zone in, and wipe at the first group of mobs. After that, we were told to leave the chairs. = Either than the welcome speech and the costume contest, not much else was really THAT fun to justify the $100 price tag.

So, I ask you Blizzcon 2008 attendees. Was it worth it? Let us know in the comment section below.
