Game sound tracks

THST

After noticing the release of the Too Human sound track (thanks Joystiq) I got to wondering how many other games have sound tracks available. A quick look on Amazon shows us that most of the big name games released in the last couple of years have released their sound tracks to purchase on CD or digital download. As I browsed through all these albums from the various game studios I got to wondering, do people actually buy them? I know I have a few film sound tracks at home from the likes of Gladiator and Reservoir Dogs, but I have never thought about buying a game sound track. I must admit there has been an odd tune here and there that I’ve been caught humming from a game, some of the new LittleBigPlanet tunes are really catchy and there’s a couple from Halo that get stuck in my head, but I’ve never thought ‘I must have this sound track’. In the past I have played through the sound track listings that used to be an option in the 16bit era but in the current  generation a big thing was made about being able to play your own music in games instead of being tied to the in-game sound track. So do people really buy game sound tracks to listen to whilst not playing the game? Is the music in-game really that good? Let us know your thoughts in comments.

I’m a big fan of various music styles. I’m a big fan of Video Game Live, a live orchestra concert that plays video game music. From Pong to World of Warcraft to Final Fantasy, the concert is awesome. Video game soundtracks are awesome and I have bought some songs through iTunes for 99 cents here and there. Also check out Echos of War. http://www.echoes-of-war.com/ . All the music of all 3 Blizzard franchises, redone by famous musicians.

Now that is awesome, what a great idea. I’ll have to see if Video Game Live has done some Zelda tracks. Those 8bit sound tracks were awesome lol.
