Death Knights Part 2

Wed, Dec 31, 2008

Specs
There are 3 talent trees: Blood, Frost, Unholy. I will discuss the pros and cons of each spec with regards to PvP and PvE. In beta I played as Frost and on live I leveled as Frost all the way till 80 trying to be anti-conformist to the sea of Unholy Death Knights. Finally I gave in and had to see what Unholy offered that the other 2 trees didn’t and I was quite shocked at the results. So I will share my experience to the best of my knowledge about Frost and Unholy…I only dabbled a little in Blood because this tree still needs and will get worked on in the future patches.

Who designs these kiddie rides?

Wed, Dec 31, 2008

Today I was shopping to find red running shoes to complete the Faith (Mirrors Edge) costume for Jannica’s photoshoot on Friday.  While walking around I saw some kiddie rides in the middle of the walkway.  After looking at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ride, I couldn’t help but think, why would someone design and build this in this way. I mean, Donatello is just hanging on to the back of the van, Michelangelo is just poppin his head out from the sunroof. But what the heck is Leonardo doing to Ralphael?

Yea, I’m definetly submitting these to failblog.

You Have to Admit, Flo is Hot

Every once in a while, I catch a commercial of Progressive Insurance.  Each time I see it, I grow more and more fond of Flo’s geekyness.  Stephanie Courtney’s character’s little one liners and cuteness just makes me want to smile.  Now, I’m not a lonly geek.  I do have a girlfriend who is just as geeky as her.

Maybe thats why I’m fond of her.  But you have to admit, she is kind of hot in a very geeky way.  Am I the only one that thinks this?

Playing as Arcane

Tue, Dec 30, 2008

Yesterday during our 3’s, my priest friend asked if I would try Arcane spec so I gave it a shot.

Arcane missiles, go!

Arcane missiles, go!

Boy, do things die!  The whole rotation revolves around 6 skills, sadly.  Cast Slow, pop Arcane Power, Arcane Barrage, PoM Pyro, Arcane Barrage, Arcane Missiles, throw in a Counterspell and Sheep in there and usually something dies.  I actually felt less skilled than before.  Currently, the whole WoW community is complaining about damage scaling much higher than survivability and I’d have to agree.

For games that DON’T end in 10 seconds, I usually lack the survivability (and mad crazy skillzzz) to live.  I still have a LOT to learn as far as mage goes but for the moment, Arcane is a good time killer.  Most mages plan on going 20-0-51 Frost PvP spec with Torment of the Weak and I do plan on finishing with it, but for the meantime Arcane will be my nub friendly spec!

For an example of a pretty awesome mage using arcane spec (as of this posting), have no fear and look up Pookx.

FINALLY! A trailer for the upcoming live action Thundercats movie!

Mon, Dec 29, 2008

Well… not exactly.

But this fan-made trailer is just fine by me.  This is EXACTLY the kind of excitement I want to have when I see a trailer for a movie that is about a cartoon (an awesome one at that) from my adolescent years.

Check it out!

For those of you who don’t know… this is what I really appreciate: people’s imagination and combining them with skills to make that dream a reality.  And that is what this guy did.  He had a vision in his mind of what he wanted a live action Thundercats movie trailer to look like, and made it a reality.  Just like that April Fool’s day joke of the Zelda movie, the trailer was made beautifully even though it has nothing to do with the real release.  I have to give this guy/gal BIG credit for taking the time to edit this.  This person edited the effects FRAME by FRAME in Photoshop.  This guy has some PATIENCE!  Then spliced it all together in Adobe Premiere, a video editing software.  Gotta give this guy LOTS of props.

Oh!  And if you haven’t figured it out, he just used some clips from other movies/tv shows and added his effects to have the Thundercats atmosphere.  So now… without cheating by looking at the description… how many movies/tv shows can YOU spot that he used???  And if you can find the spot where a clip of the Power Rangers movie is… I’ll give you 100 internets!

Thunder… THUNDER! THUNDERCATS!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

DRM screws legal purchasers

DRM screwing you and your neighbour

DRM screwing you and your neighbour

DRM (Digital Rights Management) is one of those sore subjects that causes heated debates from all sides. Proponents of DRM (I’m telling you they do exist!) will argue that it prevents piracy, protecting the rights of the artists or producers of the entertainment that deserve money for producing quality entertainment. Those against DRM, the vast majority of people that I come across and often a pretty vocal bunch, say that it hinders your ability to use the entertainment you’ve purchased in the way you want by transferring it between  devices. I believe both parties have a point. Artists who provide quality entertainment, be it music, movies or games do deserve our support especially in this financially hard time. On the other hand DRM in my opinion only hinders legal purchasers. Pirates will remove DRM and not even be affected by it. As soon as any copy protection is released it’s cracked and stripped in a matter of hours, history has proven time and time again that given an obstacle hackers will take to the challenge and remove it sooner rather than later. So it’s only the law abiding good citizens that get screwed by the DRM. Luckily I have managed to stay pretty clear of any DRM troubles in the past buying CDs and DVDs and with a little software magic getting those files where I want them. However within the last week or so I’ve come up against two very annoying situations that have taken me off the fence and into the DRM loathing camp.

Excuse Me, Your Geek is Showing

video_games_original_nintendo_controller_belt_buckle

Introducing an idea that has already been done by other companies and resold at many retailers.  Mainly, Hot Topic.  No doubt you have browsed your local Hot Topic and seen a belt just like the photo above.  But what is different about this particular belt is the fact that they are selling the belt with an actual NES controller.  If you’re really a video game geek that loves to show off much you are in tune with the roots of video games, then this might be for you.  They also have a belt with an actual SNES controller.

Go check out the official online store and check it out or just get yourself a tattoo like Nicky.

Dr. Pepper to Promote Video Game Athletes on Their Bottles

DP MLG Bottle.jpg

Finally, MLG (Major League Gaming) Players are getting the love they deserve.  To be a top gamer in the MLG, you need to be a very quick thinker, have strategies memorized, have practiced everyday, work as a team member during team games.  It almost feels like MLG players are like real athletes.  But in fact, they are.

Now, Dr. Pepper is giving those hardcore gamers a place on their soda bottles.  The first MLG player to get his own soda label is Tom “Tsquared”  Taylor.  His photo will be on soda bottles from January to April 2009.

Hopefully, this will show parents that gaming can be something much more than a hobby, it can be a real career.  Also, hopefully it’ll change the face of all gamers being fat and lazy.
