It’s the 40th birthday of the first public demonstration (above) of the humble mouse that Douglas Engelbart brought into the world this week. The once revolutionary device that we’re slowly trying to replace, yet most have on their desks. It’s impressive to think that such a simple input device like the mouse invented at the begining of the computer (as we know them today) revolution is still our primary input method next to our keyboard. Trackballs, touchpads and pen tablets all play their part in our input paradigm but for the vast majority of the world the humble mouse still reigns king. So dear mouse, we salute you as one of the surviving greats of the information technology revolution. Happy Birthday.
