Ok, if you haven’t switched to Firefox before, and don’t consider a huge security breach in IE7 enough of a reason to jump to Mozilla 3, then may Jeebus save you.
Today a serious flaw has been found in IE7- so serious in fact that most experts, except for Microsoft that is, are urging IE7 users to make the switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. This flaw may allow computer criminals to commandeer other people’s computers and steal passwords. Sadly, this error has been detected by hackers first, compromising more than 10,000 websites. To top off this “epic fail!” sundae, Microsoft has stated that IE7 is currently being patched, this particular vulnerability has been around in all other versions IE.
Microsoft has stated that it cannot condone the complete abandonment of IE simply because of this one flaw, but I think you can decide for yourself. According Rick Ferguson, senior security advisor at Trend Micro,
“If users can find an alternative browser, then that’s good mitigation against the threat.”
As of now, only game passwords are threatened, but the threat only begins at apps like Club Penguin-
“What we’ve seen from the exploit so far is it stealing game passwords, but it’s inevitable that it will be adapted by criminals,” he said. “It’s just a question of modifying the payload the trojan installs.”
Eep. Ok people. We here at Pixel like to consider ourselves free thinkers and like to let people figure things out naturally, but seriously, really? If you haven’t switched over before, this is as viable a reason as any to make the jump, and if not for today, then for who knows how long. I don’t know about you guys, but nobody controls my penguin but me :P.
