SSC Ultimate Aero EV Electric SuperCar

Electric Heaven Electric Heaven

Starting with the Tesla Roadster we’ve been shown that electric cars don’t have to suck (cough *G-Wiz*) but that was just the start. Don’t get me wrong the Tesla is a fine machine that has great performance and I seriously want one but there’s a new contender on the block for electric lust.

Hit the read link for more on the new ‘electric pinup’ including some drool worthy shots.

The Shelby Supercars’ first entry into the electric market looks like being something very special indeed. The Ultimate Aero EV is titled as ‘the first 100% Green Supercar’, I’m not to sure where Tesla stand on that but looking at the numbers the EV is going to blitz the relatively slow Tesla. With over 1000 bhp producing a blistering 0-60 time of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph, blink and you might miss it. That’s not all that’s quick about the EV, the battery which holds enough charge for at least 150 miles can be charged within 10 minutes using their ‘Charge on the Run’ onboard charging system using a 220V outlet, which will be an incredible feat to pull off. The Aero uses the All-Electric Scalable Powertrain, AESP for short, a new technology able to scale from 200 to 1200bhp which Shelby hopes can be used not only in an envy-inducing supercar but in all types of vehicles from people-carriers to busses. By putting the AESP into the ‘fastest production car’ the Ultimate Aero, Shelby hope to launch the technology in style. Their idea here is to show that the AESP can deliver better performance than it’s petrol driven counterpart with more linear power and overall performance. The EV will use an automatic 3-speed transmission with shift times of just 0.24 seconds. With liquid cooling the EV should be able to run at incredible speed for extended periods without overheating, something electric motors pushed to the limit have a problem with.

Shelby SuperCars is scheduling production runs for delivery as early as Q4 2009 with pre-production units expected in Q2 2009. Let’s just hope SSC can deliver on their promises and truly provide the performance that this fantastic looking pin up of a car deserves.

The impressive part isn’t the horsepower, it’s the torque. It’s 800ft/lbs of torque at 0… yes ZERO RPM’s.That is a whole bunch of shit your pants right there. You won’t be rolling in to the power, the power is always there. Those of you that know me know I’ve driven almost every kind of super car out there and this my friends is going to be awesome.

  2. Sam says:

Too right, there’s no power curve hitting in the 4-7000rpm. It’s like the opposite to turbo lag, instant power all the time. Should make it much more controllable too, no wild power surges to fly you into that tree on that corner lol. You’re going to have to fit this bad boy with some serious rubber to get all that power down from the word go. Wonder whether this thing will come with launch control?

  3. DJ Fillmatic says:

Launch controller will probably be in it. Saleen knows better than not to have it.

  4. Supercars says:

I liked the doors opened that way in a revolutionized age. Totally impressive sport car.
