Again, for those of you who don’t know… I am a gamer. I LOVE playing video games. Be it PC, Playstation 1-3, xbox, 360, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, PSP, DS, GBA, Internet Flash, Mobile, arcade, etc… if you’re some type of video game, and you’re in my field of view… sooner or later I’m going to play you. There’s no stopping it.
Needless to say, I have a good collection of video games at my disposal. I am one who keeps my eyes open to upcoming video games, anticipate their release, and once they have launched, I head to the nearest game store to buy them right away.
But this is where I have my big problem. I am a full time employee, WAS a full time student (graduated Sept. 08), and of course have a life with my family, girlfriend, and friends, so finding the time to sit down with all these games to play them till the end is definitely NOT as easy as it was before. Juggling work, school, and family, girlfriend, friend time, does not really give me ample time to get to some gaming. For the rest of my predicaments on finishing video games… go past the break.
Let’s go back to my 2nd paragraph. There are soooo many great games. Unfortunately for me… I have a VERY bad habit when playing games. I get into it but then I would stop half way through because a new game has caught my attention. I swear, I think I have ADD. So once I switch to that new game, the cycle of me playing, stopping, and switching games continues. I need to learn a better tactic when playing video games. It’s hard, with the little free time I have, to stick with a game when many other games that are awesome have come out. How can I NOT play a great game once it has come out?
So why am I talking about this? Well I finally have a little free time on my hands so I decided to pick up some games that I started but never finished yet. So in the last 2 weeks I finally finished: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Mirrors Edge (BIG disappointment unfortunately), Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (CANNOT wait for Uncharted 2).
Games I still have to finish:
- Metal Gear Solid 4 (I am SO ashamed about this one)
- Devil May Cry 4
- Fallout 3
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Final Fantasy Crisis Core
- Final Fantasy X-2 (but I doubt I’ll WANT finish this one)
- Final Fantasy XII
- Final Fantasy: Revenant Wings
- COD4
- Valkyria Chronicles
- Suikoden 2-5
- Grandia 2-3
- I-Ninja
- Psychonauts
- No More Heroes
- Twilight Princess
- F.E.A.R.
- Command and Conquer 3
- And many many many more that I cant remember and am ashamed to admit
So what do you think guys??? How should I go about this? Should I stick with just one game and play it till I beat it before moving on to a new game? Or should I be a game whore, moving from game to game for however long I wish? How bout you guys? What kind of gamer are you? What is YOUR way you play video games? But how about those games I haven’t finished yet. You saw the list. That’s only half of the games or so I haven’t finished. Should I bother going back to those games, remember what’s going on in the story, and sit down and finish? PLUS… there are still the games I haven’t even OPENED yet… Oye vey… I have no idea how to go about this… Hit me back in the comments!!

Oh how I wish I had the power to stop time…
Oh! And let me throw this in. There is ONE game I will never turn my back on. I HAVE to play it at least 5 days a week for 2 or so hours at a time. I LOVE me this game and will never grow tired of it. The game I speak of is TEAM FORTRESS 2 (PC of course)!! Hit me up on my steam account: chrles76 or GrammatonCleric858. I will be happy to headshot you, backstab you, burn you, bludgeon you, heal you, explode you, or let Natasha shred you.

Apologies to DJ Fillmatic. I had problems finding my post after publishing… and decided to delete and retry, not knowing that Fillmatic has already commented on my post.

“Some of those games you have listed I beat in a couple hours. I can’t stop playing a game till it’s finished. Prime example is call of duty 4. First time I played it was when I got off work at like 6pm. I wass finished in a few hours. Then played online till I hit my first prestige over the next couple days.
Just play the game till it’s done. It makes it so that you always have other games to look forward to. You don’t need a game when it comes out. That’s why we have Power, Pause and save functions on our consoles. You can play them whenever you want, they’re not going to get up and walk away.”
DJ Fillmatic brings up a good point. I just don’t have to get the game right away. So why do I? My guess is that I finally earn a paycheck so the act of waiting to buy a game was no longer a problem. I could buy it right away! But… imagine… how much money I would still have in my account… blaaaaaah.
And another tid bit about my gaming habit. I am a tedious gamer. I rarely plow through a game. If the game has secrets and extra missions… I just have to try em. No clue why… I just do. But as for the many RPGs I still have… no WAY am I able to beat them in a few hours. Adventure games sure… but NO way could I beat any of the mentioned RPGs so quickly…
Gah damn… even my damn COMMENTS are long as hell. Sorry guys. >_<
You know, I’m a firm believer in the whole don’t open a new game till you’ve finished the one you are playing now. I got to this stage when the prices of second hand Xbox games got cheap of buying 3 at a time (3 for 2 offers and the alike) but only ever really playing one of them. These days that seems like an aweful waste so I don’t open games when I haven’t finished the one currently on the go. Recently I’ve been pre-ordering games but I think unless I’ve actually finished any current game I’m going to wait hold off because in the UK the price of the recent releases drop by about 30% after about 2 weeks. It’s a difficult problem though, I’m very tempted to pre-order Killzone 2 but it’s right when I’ve got some deadlines to hit at work and I know it’s going to be cut so fast after launch it’s not worth it.
I’m a very casual gamer. I usually buy 1 game and play it until I get bored. Which takes a months. So, I’m not sure what you can do.
