Video Games Live – San Diego Comic Con Concert on Sale Now

Tue, Mar 31, 2009

video games live

The ultimate “cherry-on-top” for your San Diego comic con weekend is now on sale.  On Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 7:30pm, at the Embarcadero Marina Park South (behind the San Diego Convention center), Video Games Live will be making their second Comic Con concert.  I was lucky enough to get free tickets to the first concert back in 2008 from a good friend. It was my birthday present. (Thanks Aric!)

tommytjackwallIf you’ve been living under a rock and have never heard of Video Games Live, I’ll explain it for you.  Imagine a orchestral concert that only plays video game theme songs. Awesome idea? Yea, I know. But there’s more.  They also play videos of from the game they are playing music from onto a big screen. Last year they had a Guitar Hero contest before the concert started.  The winner of contest was invited on stage to play guitar hero in front of the whole crowd with the game projected on a HUGE screen.  They also had a small costume contest. To top it all off, they have the “Blindfolded Mario Pianist”, Martin Leung as part of the show!

The whole idea was created by Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall.  And what an awesome idea it is.

Now that I’ve convinced you to go, I’ve took the liberty of making a seating chart diagram and calling the Box Office for ticket prices.  They don’t have a seating chart up yet and the prices they have on their site are kind of confusing.

Seating Chart

Premium Tables (4 persons per table) – $50/per person
Tables (4 persons per table) – $40/per person
Lawn Seats and Bleachers – $25/per person

Plan your Comic-Con day and get tickets early! They sold out last year and they will sell out this year as well.

Pixar vs. Dreamworks

Mon, Mar 30, 2009

pixar_vs_dreamworks

This is what I have been saying all along.  Dreamworks animated films suck.  They go for the easy kid money.  None of their work is classic.  Each film just feels like an easy scam to get kids into the theaters.  And of course kids can’t go alone, so they get extra money because the parents have to buy a ticket too.  The films suck because there is no substance to their story.

All film makers know , or atleast I hope they do, that a film is supposed to tell a good story.  A story that will stick with you for days.  Pixar does just that.  Also, they add in good genuine comedy (”Edna mode….. and guest”).  Not the comedy of fart jokes (Shrek).  Because of this opinion of mine, I have never watched another Dreamworks Animated film since Antz.

But, I did beat Kun-Fu Panda on Xbox360. It came with the console. =

Why the Fuck Do You Have a Kid?.com

Mon, Mar 30, 2009

One time on the bus, I noticed what-appeared-to-be a 17-year-old girl playing with her Sidekick. Typical, yes. But she was also telling her what-appeared-to-be one-year-old son to “shut the fuck up.”

It begs the question: why the fuck do you have a kid?

And now there’s a web site for it, aptly named, www.whythefuckdoyouhaveakid.com.

I was half-hoping to see pictures of girls who went to my high school on this site, but it seems that nobody has rummaged through their Facebook pictures. Yet. Ah, but life is beautiful – who am I to judge? Besides, this web site seems to be doing all the judging for me.

Here’s a small preview:

Really digging the lace-up hot pants.

New Extended Star Trek TV Spot

Mon, Mar 30, 2009

The closer we get to May 8th, the more I want to become a Trekkie. I’ll admit, the most I’ve ever seen about Star Trek was when they made an appearance on Futurama.  Time to learn some Klingon.

Leak: Playstation 2 price drop to $99

Mon, Mar 30, 2009

Master X has uploaded 3 photos to the HighDef Digest forums that show Playstation 2 consoles are going down in price to $99 on April 5, 2009.

ps2a

ps2b

ps2c

Even though this isn’t really big news, it just comes to show that Sony is still trying to milk the PS2.  The PS2 was introduced to the world on March 4, 2000 in Japan and October 26, 2000 here in North America.  Sony, I think it’s time to give the PS2 a rest and let it die out. Why not cutting prices on the PS3? Or better yet, introduce a PS3 without Blu-Ray.  I know it’ll never happen because you worked hard on that HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray battle.

But embrace the future of non-physical media.  Like music.  8-Track > Tape > CD > MP3. Oh, wait. I just remembered. You always like to add your own format and milk it for all it’s worth before embracing future media. 8-Track > Tape > CD > MINI-DISC > MP3.

Well, Sony. When you’re ready.  Do what Xbox 360 is doing with Netflix. Stream HD movies and sell things online.  That way you can cut prices on PS3 that have no blu-ray drive. I know there are some hardcore Blu-Ray fans out there right now saying “F*CK YOU! I need my 1080p!” Well, thats fine. But don’t forget to dust off those other Blu-Ray discs you haven’t watched in a while.
