A new viral teaser website that popped up is quite spooky. It’s called “Whats in the box?”
When hover over this red circle, you’re mouse point has a pattern of letters and numbers:

What do they mean? Are they a code of some sort? Are they hex color codes? Upon further investigation of this page, viewing the source, there’s this code:

More information on this site, after the break.When going to http://babel-research.eu, we are greeted with a completely different website. But, on every footer of this website are three logos. Two of which made me smile.
Black Mesa, Aperture Science, and the Hanso Foundation Logos
Could this mean there is something in the works from Valve? With E3 only about one month away, we could only hope. Here is the video, uploaded on March 13th, that started this viral teaser site.

I never got into the LOST ARG, but all this HL/Portal/LOST crossover seems to be too much for a Valve product for me. How should LOST fit into the HL universe?

It seems like every page on the Babel site has a small hidden picture at the bottom left which appears every now and then. CLICK IT when it shows up.

On the What’s in the box website, if you type in Hanso in the box you get “4 8 15 16 23 45″
I don’t know if anyone noticed this but by randomly clicking on the top of the red circle I came up with the same video shown on YouTube:

Are you aware that clicking on the bottom of the circle opens a box allowing something to be typed in. At the moment, anything that is typed, is replied by a Jurassic Park referrence those of you who have seen it will remember. Also, clicking on the top of the circle opens a page linking to that released video.

Ah, ok, in the box, if you type The Magic Word ‘please’, it asks “Who are you, Dennis Nedry?” Dennis Nedry was the ‘nerd’ in Jurassic Park. If the LOST thing is correct, chances are this is some crazy, fan-made thing. No way would Valve create something that’s related to Half-Life, Portal, LOST AND Jurassic Park…
found some more stuff.. type 4 8 15 16 23 42 into the whats in the box text box and it goes to a poster for the UEC. upon inspection ive found a file called mc2.mp3, and it says “located within quarantine zone”
Clicking on the bottom section of the circle gives you a text input box, I type hanso and it give me these numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42.
I’ve been trying to get onto the Babel remote access area and thing this code may be linked.
Isn’t the Hanso Foundation out of LOST.
They’re the guys that made the Darhma initiative right?

I really want it to be a Lost & HL Tie In, but there’s just no evidence of it. while it is true that babel research etc. links to lost related sites there is no link back. An official Valve announcement of this sort, wouldn’t be like that.
On a brighter note it appears that the incident is the video, is known as the august 6th incident, and that it was caused by Babel Research, as the front page of babelresearch.com insinuates.
the music on this video is very decidedly LOST music. The tower shown at the beginning of the video seems very similar to the citadel tower in HL2. I agree with fihu and steffanic, this very likely isn’t anything fficial, but something by a fan. It’s too odd a marriage.

not sure if this is anything but in the source code for babel research there is a class or something (not a programmer) called “our” followed by “little secret” This is the code for the rainbow colored balls underneath the logo. One of the balls has a different code than the other (the central-ish teal one). Any help here? or am I trying to hard…

I solved the color code.
As you guys know, if you hold the pointer over the bottom arc on the “whats in the box” page, the code cycles beneath the pointer. Looking up these color codes, you will notice that each one appears in a colored bubbled on the Babel Research homepage. If you click the bubbles in the order of the corresponding color, you’ll find a hidden “Army Evacuation Procedure” image appear.
For those of you wondering what the order of the bubbles is, as they are numbered 1-9 from left to right, it is: 5,1,2,7,9,4,3,6,8.
Okay, found another easter egg.
On the “Army Evacuation Procedure” image I just mentioned, there is a bar code near the upper right corner. Using my very amateur UPC skills, I think I’ve managed to decipher it into a ten-digit code. The code is the following: 125002 741350.
Unfortunately, the Hanzo Exposed and the Rachel Blake web sites appear to be down, so I haven’t had a chance to look at them. Hopefully they’ll be back up at some point. This is fun.
