K-ON Image 1K-ON is the story of four unlikely members of their school’s “light music club”. The club was well on its way to being canceled when Ritsu learned of its existence, and decided to take action.

Ritsu Tainaka has always dreamed of starting her own rock band. When she learned that the school’s light music club had become empty, as all of its members graduated, she took up its reigns as president. She plays the drums, because they are the “coolest”, and was otherwise made to be unremarkable in the first two episodes (aside from her friendship with Mio).

Mio Akiyama joined the light music club under duress from Ritsu. She is shy and intended to join the literary club. Mio plays the bass in the club; also somewhat unremarkable so far.

K-ON Image 2The third member to join is Tsumugi Kotobuki, who was originally looking to join the choir. She plays the keyboard in the club, as she has been trained on the piano since age four. Tsumugi frequently brings expensive snacks to club gatherings, and is the daughter of a wealthy family (which comes in helpful in getting Yui her guitar). She ultimately stays with the club because the people there are fun and happy.

Yui Hirasawa, the main character in this series, joins as the fourth member of the club. She saves the club from being closed down a week before its deadline. However, she has little to no musical ability. The club members are determined to get her up to speed!

This series has a bit of a slow start, music-wise, but has some potential. Half of the main characters are a little undefined, but future episodes will hopefully fill in more of their backstory.
