I am at just pure awe at the level of talent put into this video. There is so much creativity going on that my head was about to explode. From the fact that it’s all shot in one take, to the perfect lighting, to the awesome lyrics of a REAL (non-auto-tuned) rapper, to the introductions of each part that helped the beat bulid.
I truly hope this guy makes it big. Mainstream rap hasn’t been the same lately and we need to bring REAL rap back - starting with this guy.

UPDATE: Sammy points out that the beat originally came from Lil Wayne. After a quick Google search, I come to see that Sammy is correct. But Lil’ Wayne’s version just sounds like regular mainstream clear channel trash. Good beat, but it doesn’t actually “build” up like Nyle’s version. Plus, Nyle’s version has lyrics you can understand and enjoy while Lil’ Wayne is just sounding like a guy who is high or drunk (or both). Lil’ Wayne is “acting like he’s street, but (hes) barely sidewalk.”
More props to you Nyle. You have made a new fan out of me for your work as a true musician of the lost art called Rap. If you don’t agree with my opinion, listen to it below:
Let The Beat Build – Lil Wayne
If you still don’t agree with me, that’s ok. Everyone has different tastes and ear drums. But I’m just waiting for this whole “auto-tuned” rap fad to die out and rhythmic poetry to come back.
Liked this so much! Oh and that light-skinned back up singer was SO hot. I mean wow.LOL!
Wow. Just- WOW. I was at first put off when I noticed that it was a rap vid- because like you mention, the mainstream rap of late has been mostly meaningless and generally awful but I was stunned adn surprised! This is so talented and down to earth regarding lyrics, featuring every person and instrument involved in the song.
“i don’t need no sample/i got a girl with a banjo”
Immediately jumps to the no.1 spot on the list of greatest hip-hop lines ever.
Brilliant.
oh.. http://www.nyleraps.com
Very cool video. I would be very impressed if that was all done in one take, but they probably cut it with invisible transitions(anytime Nyle passes behind something or when the camera whips off him) and it looks like they probably shot each piece of the band/orchestra separately and comped them in afterwards, which is even more impressive because of how seamless they made it look, that requires very intensive After Effects editing.
@Greg be impressed. It was all done in 1 shot. Took 30 takes, but they got it. Notice that Nyle messes up a little, by bumping into the trombone. But, he doesn’t miss/skip a beat. Also, the track recording was done during the taping. It wasn’t done the traditional way of taping, then adding the music in post. So, again. Be impressed.
That was pretty tight, gotta admit.
all these people in the video are from nyu, amazing talent
Damn i don’t usually like rap cause of all the ghetto stuff but this is amazing
@Joe because this is what REAL rap is. Real rap on the radio was non-auto tuned (i.e. T. Pain and that “Gay Fish” Kanye West.). Real rap was back with Dr. Dre, NWA, T-Pac, Public Enemy, Black Sheep, Nate Dogg, etc.
Wholly shit! That was amazing. Had to listen to it twice
Isn’t the whole beat and idea of the song originally by Lil Wayne in a song of the same name? I’m not trying to be an ass but I have the album from last summer and Lil Wayne has the same song with similar ideas and style
Yeah, it’s a beat used by Lil Wayne but its completely normal for rappers to use each others’ beats, hey, it’s almost traditional. The actual beat is supposed to be secondary to the lyrics. That’s why all classic rap songs end up remixed over and over again with different beats. The beats enhance but they shouldn’t ever be more important. Also, Let the Beat Build is sampled from other music as well. It was not just made up. It’s a beat that was put together by Kanye which is why Wayne drops his name in the song. Rappers rarely make their own beats anymore. What makes this song great is his lyrics and the fact that the whole song was performed live. They didn’t just rip the beat track off the song. Every person in that video was phenomenal; Nyle, the singers, the choir, the dancer and all the musicians. Even the teacher in the beginning is a great touch.
wow!!…loved it!! KEEP IT COMING!!
haha how can you not understand Lil Wayne. What are you deaf? Lil Wayne’s voice is super unique which is why he is so popular. Just because hes popular and mainstream doesn’t mean his music is bad. Who cares if he sounds high or drunk or crunk, it just makes it more interesting.
Oh and your not that creative if your using another artist’s beat. I know a lot of artists do this, but you can’t call say one artist is as good as you are just by one song. Especially when the beat is not his own.
Oh and his flow is amateur at best.
I count this pretty creative, thinking that they added additional instruments that weren’t in the original and actually played them.
Plus anything Nyle says in this is better than Lil Wayne’s shitty excuse for lyrics.
And anyone that seriously says “I am the best rapper alive” in their songs is a self-loving prick.
You have no idea what Auto-Tune is or what it does, do you?
@Schade You record your “singing” or “rapping” and auto-tune makes your voice go on the correct pitch of the beat/song. So there is no skill needed whatsoever to sound “good”.
I loved the Nyle version better than Lil Wayne
hahahahaha holy shit
lil wayne is terrible but this shit isn’t better by any margin
the mc in that video is weak as hell and the lyrics are so uninteresting he may as well be going “i am rappin’” over and over again. and lol that video is fucking “i have a degree in film” trash (OH MAN THEY SHOT THIS SCENE WHERE NOBODY DOES ANYTHING REMARKABLE IN ONE TAKE, WOW).
congrats on posting a lameass vid with a “real non-autotuned rapper” to stick it to the music industry or something.
FFFFF has just said what I wanted to,
This video fucking sucks,
He didn’t even write the song.
of course this vid wasn’t one take,
this isn’t any more real, it’s just another studio creation from start to end
Just because he isn’t auto tuning doesn’t in any way make him more legitimate, the song just has less texture and melody.
I’m not an auto tuning fanatic or anything I just don’t see how this piece
of shit is any better. Omg, there is a small horn section! Guess this guy
is a “real musician”
whatever
If the level of talent that went into the creation of this music truly blows
your mind, you need to expand your music collection.
There is plenty of incredible hip hop being made today,
Truly innovative sounds and fresh ideas.
This isn’t one of them, this isn’t even an original track.
Prefuse 73,Doom,Madlib,Cunninlynguists,J dilla, Living legends,
For Christs sake did you hear Love Below? Andre personally recorded a lot
of the piano and guitar tracks on that album.
These lyrics are equally vacuous as most mainstream tunes I’ve heard lately,
it’s just positive. That doesn’t mean the content is meaningful.
Ever listened to Sage Francis or Dead Prez?
anyway at least this video tells me this guy couldn’t scrape together the
kind of talent someone like Marvin Gaye or Brian Wilson etc. etc. leak from their dickholes while sleeping.
Didn’t even “Build that Beat” Lil Wayne did, regardless of whether or not you like his rapping, in my mind he still put that song together.
[...] is the video below. Regardless if you like rap, this video is amazing. Here’s a snippet from the article I originally saw this video: “I am at just pure awe at the level of talent put into this video. [...]
agreeing with the Agreed! and Bals
there’s shitloads of good rap out now you just need to find it
although calling J Dilla a living legend is kind of a misnomer lol
Nah dude,
J dilla, and Living Legends
Living Legends is a Hip Hop group
Sorry for the confusion!
Seeing that made my day! If the other articles are like this I’ll have to come back ;)
Lil Wayne definitely sucks. Glad to see someone made use of a good beat that was otherwise wasted.
I love how everyone is saying that this guy is not a real rapper because he took a beat from Lil Wayne….
Listen up… Lil Wayne does not write his own raps, or his own beats… he has stolen countless lines from many of the best rappers alive, and still manages to make them sound like complete garbage. I really enjoyed this video, and also thought that it was beautifully shot.
For all you blind sheep out there that think Lil Wayne is the best thing to hit the rap game, then you really need to do some research on the man, and how much he has ripped off other artists… or the fact that he has had a ghost writer for 90% of his albums and career.
I love Nyles version, but Lil Waynes is one of my favorite songs. Pppl hate on him b/c he is who he is, but his lyrics flow, n hes pretty intelligent when it comes to his lyrics.
Wait… Lil’ Wayne’s intelligent when it comes to his lyrics? I listen to some Lil’ Wayne but other than a few songs off of “Tha Carter III” I really haven’t heard anything too intelligent.
All Lil’ Wayne ever seems to rap about is money, bitches, drugs, and sex. Not even in a clever way either.
“Suck my dick with red lipstick and don’t let it smear.” ends my Nyle’s version > Weezy’s version.
[...] Btw, this isn’t the first time a one take music video made it big recently on the nets. Remember Nyle’s “Let the Beat Build?” [...]
I do love Nyle’s version of this song- his lyrics are WAY better than those of Lil Wayne, and his video is very impressive and worth keeping on the playlist for days. That said, the original Lil Wayne version is AMAZING musically- the beat DOES build up, crescendo, and then diminish, then builds up again. It’s really good music. I don’t like the original lyrics though- far too “gangsta” for my tastes. I much prefer the underground, positive minded hip hop, and always will.
