The new Spy VS Sniper update and free Team Fortress 2 brought many noobs to the game but also a new map.  I’m not talking about the 4 new maps introduced.  I’m talking about Achievement_Idle.  What Valve has done was try to give everyone a fair chance at getting the new weapons.  In the past, after a new class patch has been deployed, people would only play that class to get the achievements and unlock the new weapons.  This caused an expected saturation where people wouldn’t care to win.  They would just be playing to unlock a weapon.

To fix this, Valve decided to have random new weapons unlock randomly for random people.  There is no more skill involved.  If you are online and playing, you have a chance at unlocking something.  But now you don’t even have to be at your chair playing TF2.  Just find an “achievement_idle” server and that’s it.  Go to bed, ALT+TAB, go to work, and when you come back, you’ll have new weapons. Yay!

Of course this is a type of exploit of the system, but what can Valve do to fix this? For starters, they could do a damage or kill meter.  People who actually cause a lot of damage to the other team or a lot of kills will have a better chance of unlocking new weapons.  Or maybe add in an objective meter.  Make people want to win a map and work as a team to win.   I know there are plenty more better ideas than these, but Valve seriously needs to come up with something before their core fan base are at their HQ steps with torches and pitch forks.
