Tue, Jun 30, 2009

In an attempt to get more people to start using Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft’s marketing team goes viral and hires pretty boy/Superman, Dean Cain.  As a web designer, I hope people will hear this cry for downloads and get off of IE6 already or better yet, download FireFox 3.5 which came out today.

iPhone App Review: Terminator Salvation

Tue, Jun 30, 2009

IMG_0016Now that I’ve finally managed to get to see the film it’s time to look at GameLoft’s Terminator Salvation iPhone game.

Terminator Salvation for iPhone captures the spirit of a desperate struggle against that machines pretty well for a hand held game. The textures are pretty good, some of the best I’ve seen on the iPhone and really give the sense of realism to the post-apocalytic scenes which are bolstered by decent cut scenes.

Pirate Bay goes legit, reeks of Napster

Tue, Jun 30, 2009

piratebay

Pirate Bay has been sold to Global Gaming Factory X for $7.8m, who will take charge in August. Having also purchased ‘p2p 2.0′ software company Peerialism, many are saying that Pirate Bay is going the way of Napster V2.

“We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site,” said Global Gaming Factory CEO Hans Pandeya.

TPB blog had this to say:

If the new owners will screw around with the site, nobody will keep using it. That’s the biggest insurance one can have that the site will be run in the way that we all want to. And – you can now not only share files but shares with people. Everybody can indeed be the owner of The Pirate Bay now. That’s awesome and will take the heat of us.

It’ll be interesting whether this new approach works and whether it will be business as usual for TPB.

Stuff to Look Forward to June 30th – July 4th

Tue, Jun 30, 2009

itcrowd_header

July 4th is this Saturday and while it brings us a fantastic day off on Friday it also brings about another tradition that I up hold. Yes BBQ is one of them but it’s that time to dust off that old SuperBit DVD of Independence Day. Relive the awesomeness that was watching the dynamic duo of Will Smith and the Chaotician himself Jeff Goldblum!!! “Opps? Let’s try that again, this time without the oops.” This week also holds a diamond in the rough of DVD releases. This time around we have The IT Crowd. If you haven’t seen this yet Season 1 is still on Netflix Instant.

Magic Drop Touch Coming Soon to iPhone

In the arcade of my youth there were these red colored arcade cabinets. They were always a treat to find, usually containing at least 3 Games. My Favorite games on these arcade cabinets was this fun little Puzzle Game called Magic Drop. It’s the type that’s easy to play and difficult to master. The addiction started off small until my friends and I would spend entire afternoon battling each other to see who the Master was. Well my long wait is over Magic Drop is making it’s way to Mobile Devices with the Release of Magic Drop Touch.

Magic Drop Touch is currently available on Android Phones and is on it’s way to the iTunes App Store sometime in August. The Game contains a Story Mode and an Endless Mode and features 6 Playable Characters from the Magic Drop Universe ranging from Star, Justice, Chariot, World, Fool, to the Devil.

I have to say out of all the platforms that Magic Drop could go to the iPhone seems like a pretty good one. Keep your eyes peeled come August for some Magic Droup Touch Fun!!!!!

Natal hates the cripples

Mon, Jun 29, 2009

notimmy

(NOTE: I am in fact gimpish. I lost my leg to cancer and I’m writing this article to be funny and informative, so I don’t want to hear any whining in the comments about it being insensitive. Grow up.)

One of the biggest stories to come out of E3 this year was the announcement of Project Natal. A motion capture peripheral for the Xbox 360 due out sometime next year. And after looking at the video they showcased during their press conference I’ll admit I was pretty excited. Motion capture, if done right, could be a great step forward in gaming. Unless you’re handicapped that is.

What’s wrong with you people? If you can go virtual skateboarding in a game wouldn’t you think you could learn to do it in real life? Playing a fighting game by flailing your limbs around to simulate punching and kicking looks fun, if you have all of your limbs that is. Same thing with soccer. If you two legged people like to show off so much by playing the game, drag your ass outside with some friends and play the real thing. Gaming is supposed to be an escape, not an exact replica of the real thing.

I’m good at games because I have to be. It’s the only way I can participate in sports (without forking over ridiculous amounts of money for adaptive equipment) like baseball and football. I’ll kick your ass at Madden because that’s my playing field. Period.

So I ask you bipeds, don’t use Natal to virtually do anything you can already do, I’ll cry. And I haven’t done any crying since The Notebook.

If this is the future of gaming then I’m screwed. Unless EA Sports starts developing Wheelchair Jousting 2010. Hint, hint.

Show your kids how much you hate them with this…

Mon, Jun 29, 2009

gamedr

Are you too lazy to keep an eye on your child? Don’t want to use your time or energy explaining to them the meaning of responsibility? Then here’s the gadget for you!!!

The GameDr is easy to use and ensures that you can keep watching Jerry Springer without having to get up and pay attention to your kid! Just plug the console into the GameDr and plug the GameDr into the wall and BAM! instant parent!

And you don’t have to worry about your kids changing the timer on you because it’s password protected. They’ll never figure out your genius password of 12345!

The GameDr works by cutting power to the console after the allotted daily time has been used up. Which of course will in no way harm the console. Cutting power to it randomly is highly recommended by the manufacturer. Dumb ass.

If your kids gaming addiction has gotten bad enough where you think you need a timer, save the $29.99 and just talk to the kid. If you can’t handle that then your parenting skills = Epic Fail!

Wow. What is going on lately? First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett, then Michael Jackson, now Billy Mays? This is just another example of how life can go with a snap of a finger.

TV pitchman Billy Mays was found dead this morning in his Tampa Bay home. The unmistakable Mays, whose signature high decibel delivery was a staple for dozens of quirky TV commercial wares and gadgets, was 50.

Thank you, Billy.  For your great attitude and those, sometimes, not so great products.
