Bing Microsoft’s new search service that replaced Live search has some novel new features that may not last out the month. Central to the Bing philosophy is the use of live previews of web content without the need to leave the search page. It’s mission is to bring you more relevant search hits with the user being able to make a choice on the content before clicking the link and visiting the site.

Whilst this is an excellent idea for standard web searches be it for information, images or video and something different from the competition at the present time, it may be the downfall of Bing.

The main issue is that you don’t need to visit the content creators website to view the content. In this respect for short video clips, the user will never need to leave bing. Of course for longer videos the clips only give a good preview of what’s on offer. The issue of allowing access to full content or ‘enough’ content to warrant the visitor to never visit the site where the content is stored comes to the forefront when you start talking about Adult entertainment.

Porn is a big and booming industry on the internet with porn sites for everything you can think of available with videos, images and more. Bing does what it does best and pulls previews which are meant to represent the most poinent part of the content. So when you turn off safe search, unleashing the search engine on the world of adult entertainment, these clips however short, are ‘enough to get the mission done’. In this respect Bing is likely to have to modify it’s search previews when porn is involved due to legal pressure brought to bear from the online porn industry. From their point of view Bing removes the need for users to visit their sites and therefore effects their revenue.

Of course from the users point of view Bing is the probably the best porn search engine of the moment. Parents beware, Bing brings porn to your little miscreants even through dns filters. For everyone else, check it out for yourself, though obviously not at work unless you want your Boss to know you’re a dirty perve.

One Response to “Bada Bing!”

  1. Luke says:

Hard to imagine someone building a web browser without thinking of porn. It’s like building a submarine that isn’t waterproof.

(Constructive crit: this article took about three times the number of words required to get the point across, and the extra words weren’t funny or interesting.)
