Not even 24 hours after iPhone 3.0 software was released, someone has created a simple hack that will enable internet tethering on your iPhone. Here’s how:
- Point your Safari browser on your iPhone to http://help.benm.at/help.php.
- Download the proper Mobileconfig based on your country/provider – it will install itself.
- Go to Settings -> General -> Network and turn tethering on (thanks for the correction MindStalker)
- Connect the iPhone via USB or Bluetooth to your PC/Mac and tethering will be an option.
- Enjoy.
To “uninstall”, go to Settings -> General -> Profile and select the “Remove” button.
All this can be done without iTunes or additional drivers installed. It can be added / removed as needed.
As with all the tethering options, be forewarned that AT&T (or other provider) hasn’t approved this solution and use at your own risk.
Also, please note that some people around the internets are commenting that visual voice mail is bugging out on them. So, again, do this at your own risk. Here is a speed test while I was on the road. No, I wasn’t driving. My GF was. Btw, this whole post was done while going down the 805 South. Damn, I feel productive! =D

Just a word of caution, O2 the UK provider of the iPhone has said it’ll crack down hard on anyone found to be using tethering without paying the extra charge. I’m not sure how they’d differentiate what is going to a computer from what’s going to an iPhone but one things for sure, since the iPhone doesn’t have flash anything flash based will stick out like a sore thumb on any data inspection they might do.
