Rockin' out at E3
Didn’t get much sleep after Day 1. I was up late finishing up the Day 1 post and I wanted it to be perfect. Still, this is E3 and for me to miss it because I woke up late would have been total bullshit. And, despite my lack of sleep, I found myself going through the day with tremendous energy.
After getting our continental breakfast, the Geeks and I headed over to the Convention Center, Nelson and Jamie heading over to Warner Interactive, while Andrew and I made our way over to SEGA for Alien vs. Predator and Bayonetta. While there were a few kinks to work out in our SEGA experience, the two of us were in no rush to get out of there and even saw former Capcom game designer Hideki Kamiya, director of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and SEGA’s upcoming Bayonetta. Things got off to a rocky start for us, given that somebody, won’t point any fingers *cough*thatdouchebagRaul*cough*, thought the presentation was at the SEGA booth and not their meeting room.
So, our presentations were delayed and we spent about 45 minutes extra at SEGA, but we didn’t have anything planned. Both game demonstrations looked amazing, and each offered, though we weren’t able to play them at the demonstration. After Andrew left to do his own thing, I had lunch with Jamie and Nelson down in the West Hall media lounge where we hung out for a bit before I decided to head back to South Hall and get my hands on some up close and personal Bayonetta action.
The press is ready for Konami
At the SEGA booth, there was definitely quite a crowd waiting to play the game but, surprisingly, I didn’t have to wait too long. I have to say, Bayonetta was quite impressive. I looked around the floor for a while, taking pictures, as well as taking in as much as my brain could possibly allow. After all, E3 was kind of a big deal for me. After chilling on the show floor for a bit and seeing Stan Lee at the Activision booth, signing autographs, I made my way over to the Konami Press Conference. At this point, Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Peace Walker had already be announced at Microsoft and Sony’s Press Conferences, I was already expecting those presentations. Still, I couldn’t help but feel somewhat excited.
Things at Konami got off to a rocky start, mainly because Jamie, Nelson, and I weren’t on the list. We were definitely confirmed, according to Jamie’s confirmation email for the Press Conference
Konami starts thier press conference
and, after Nelson’s piece of shit 3G network on his iPhone finally loaded the confirmation email, we got our seating passes and headed on in to see what Konami had in store for us.
The entire incident was definitely bothersome and it made me feel like Konami was getting on the job training at herding cattle (something similar could be seen at the Ubisoft Press Conference on Monday).
Anyway, after catching up with fellow press member John Constantine (not his real name), who Andrew and I had met at SEGA, we headed into the conference. After the expected but still appreciated Kojima Productions presentation, including a surprise announcement for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, we were treated to some interesting new games, such as the Wii Balance Board DDR game and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
Me with the DDR Master
Following the conference, I tried to get a picture with MGS creator Hideo Kojima, only to be cockblocked by his PR people. However, Jamie and I were about to get pictures with the flamboyant and very cool Naoki Maeda of DDR fame.
Having RSVP’d for a Cocktail Party at Sony Online Entertainment booth, where I got to check out DC Universe Online, the Geeks and I had a few drinks at met up with Robert Jones, Director of Gaming Research for Machinima.com after running into him in the drink line. The guy looks young but I was surprised to find he was 35 years old, with Jamie, being the blunt bitch she is, jokingly asking what it was like to be 40. He took it well and we hung out with him and other people from Machinima.com, including Stephen Przybylowski, Director of Marketing, exchanging stories of our E3 experiences thus far.
After our day ended, we headed back to our shitty hotel, where we geared up and prepared ourselves for a night of partying.
Bottom junk is my mess. Top junk is Jamie's.
