iPhone 3.0.1 software update does NOT disable internet tethering

IMG_0605

It still works

In a post from MacRumors.com, people have discovered that the 3.1 beta disables tethering.  This has made a couple of people nervous about wether or not they should update to 3.0.1 to prevent the infamous SMS hack or deal with it to keep their internet tethering capabilities.

Well, I took the plunge and I’m happy to report that internet tethering still works.

Hasn’t been directly jailbroken though. Some people have had success with Redsn0w using a 3.0 IPSW work around but no tool officially supports 3.0.1 just yet. Shouldn’t be long though.

I recently upgraded my firmware from 3.0 to 3.0.1 and for some reason my phone no longer plays video sites like veoh I can open the site but cannot play the content it shows weird language instead and no my iPhone is not jailbroken or unlocked please help

“SMS patch, nothing else…” isn’t that what we were all told?

My experience was just the opposite. 3.0.1 did, in fact, break tethering… but in a sneaky way.

The UI controls are still active, it even says it’s ‘tethering’, but the phone never repsonds to the attached device’s request for an IP address. just times out

Revving back to 3.0 immediately fixed the problem.

Shame on you Apple. If you’re going to intentionally break functionality, at least be man enough not to lie about it.
