What’s Going On? 7/13/2009

Everyday, I’ll try to post a summary of three non-geek articles I read today. This is my vain attempt at trying to spread awareness of these types of issues.

Lack of rain leaves them in a severe drought

After days without a drop of water, the Malviya family were the first to reach the hole they had drilled in the pipe … Within minutes, three of them were dead, hacked to death by angry neighbours who accused them of stealing water.

Perhaps in attempts to suppress online activism (in regards to the Iranian election)

On passing through the immigration control at the airport in Tehran, she was asked by the officers if she has a Facebook account. When she said “no”, the officers pulled up a laptop and searched for her name on Facebook. They found her account and noted down the names of her Facebook friends.
