Everyday, I’ll try to post a summary of three non-geek articles I read today. This is my vain attempt at trying to spread awareness of these types of issues.

Asking Nicaragua to repeal a law that makes abortion illegal

WHY
Because it “marks a grave departure from the government’s commitment to improving social equality and has severe consequences for the protection of human rights for women and girls”.

FTA
Amnesty points out that the ban allows no exceptions – even when continuing a pregnancy risks the life or health of the woman or girl or when the pregnancy is the result of rape.

To overthrow government and impose Islamic law

The group’s other name, Boko Haram, means “Western education is a sin” and is another title used by local people to refer to the group.

Sentenced as an adult, life in prison

WHY
She took part in the murder of 14-year-old Stefanie Rengel

FTA
Rengel was stabbed six times and left to die in a snowbank by a male juvenile who cannot be named and is only known outside the court by the initials D.B.
