Things to Look Forward to – Sept 1st – Sept 4th

br_header

This weeks release list is quite surprising. Especially considering that 2 Rad Super Manly Movies is finally hitting Blu Ray. If Gladiator wasn’t enough there’s Braveheart to back it up. Then follow that up with a great list of Video Games this week including Soul Calibur for PSP, which honestly I don’t really care about except that there’s Kratos as a playable character. Let us not forget that this week will also have yet another version of Guitar Hero. Which begs the question is there more Guitar Hero Games then Tony Hawk?? It should be getting pretty close. Anyways just like before if I miss something please drop a comment. Or just plain drop a comment.

You’ve got questions? They probably have answers.

micHello readers of PixelatedGeek! We will be covering a lot of things at this years Penny Arcade Expo (PAX).  With the recent announcement that PAX is completely sold out, we want to help you get your questions answered if you don’t have a ticket or can’t go.  Past the break, you’ll find a list of companies that we’ll be getting 1-on-1 time with.  Of course we’ll be bringing our own questions to ask them, but we’d also like to bring yours! Because sometimes the press doesn’t give you the answer you want or ask the questions you want asked.

So step up to the mic and leave a comment below with the name of the company you want to ask a question to and the question you want asked.  We’ll bring that question up with them and have them answer it.

Example comment:
TWISTEDPIXEL: Are your developers from hell? or are they just made of pure evil?

Uncharted Territory

uncharted-2-among-thieves2Ars Technica’s recent interviews with Naughty Dog’s Christophe Balestra, there was discussion of the tie between single player and multi player game modes within their flagship Uncharted sequel.

Naughty Dog has decided to keep all game development, single AND multi-player modes, in house. This decision contrasts with Bioshock 2 and the recent Wolfenstein remake, whose multiplayer modes are cobbled on by 3rd party studios.

There is also mention of in-game cash used to buy add-ons for multiplayer. Players do not have to complete round about goals and checklists to unlock yet another rare-yet-pointless-triviality, effectively sidelining the typical “unlock heavy” systems that seem to be all the rage {sarcasim}.

The beta opens September 15th and is accessible from the PSN. We will see if their gambit pays off soon enough.

Twisted Pixel Takes Action Against Splosion Man Cheaters

Humorously parodying the Terminator franchise, Twisted Pixel has issued a press release regarding the fixing of a certain exploit in Splosion Man that allows users to achieve ridiculously high scores. Entitled “SPLODEJEMENT DAY,” named after “Judgment Day,” the update, which goes into effect on September 1, 2009 at 2am PST, will both remove the exploit and any ridiculously impossible score achieved by it.

To read the humorously worded press release, go past the break.

Review: Futura Gamer’s Desk from LapWorks

-Have you been to LAN parties where there wasn’t enough table/counter space to go around?

-Would you like to game on your laptop while sitting on the couch, but you don’t because it affects your performance?

-Do you use a phone book to get your laptop at the proper eye level and wish you had something better to work with?

Well the people at LapWorks developed several “LapDesks” (Desks that sit on your lap) that can be used in these situations.

I’m a gamer and work with a laptop on a daily basis. So I was thrilled back in July when I received one of these “LapDesks”.  Now that I’ve used it for several weeks, I can tell you all about it!

Futura Gamer's Desk

Futura Gamer's Desk

The LapDesk I tried out is called the Futura Gamer’s Desk (with Regular & Max MouzPad). It retails at $54.95 on the LapWorks website.

At first, I thought it was quite expensive for a few pieces of plastic but when I realized what I could do with them I changed my mind

First, it can be used as a portable desk that you can use almost anywhere. You just lay it on your lap and it can be used either to support a laptop or the keyboard and mouse of a desktop. You’ll be comfortably sitting in an ergonomic position and your performance will be as good as if you were sitting at a computer desk. (more…)

Twitter and Facebook for Xbox Live will be free for Gold members, 'free trial' for Silver

facebook-xboxlive

This shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise, but anyone wanting to enjoy Twitter and Facebook on Xbox Live will have to pony up for Gold member subscription, the same premium prerequisite currently needed for Netflix Instant Watch and pretty much all online gaming. Silver membership will be given a “free trial,” but exactly what limitations that entails, or if they’ll be an option to “upgrade” to the full version, is anyone’s guess.

Tales of Geek Dating: I Will Kick Your WoW Ass IRL

wow_dick

So what happened exactly on that infamous birthday that I mentioned last week?

After saying good bye to our mutual friends, I marched out of his house already set on leaving him. And who do you think came running out of the house after me? The WoW crazed soon to be ex-boyfriend.

By the time I got to my car, opened the door, sat in the driver seat, and inserted the key into the ignition he immediately placed himself between me and my car door. Before I could even turn the key, he ripped the keys out of the ignition and shoved it into his pocket. I was livid, Absolutely fucking livid. I did the first thing I could do at the time. I slapped him.
