As legislation continues to roll forward in the legalization of varying levels of marijuana consumption, I sit and muse… is this the biggest importance for us to deal with right now? Should the government give two shits about a medication that shows promise, just because of its origins/history?
There are three sides in the debate. The first being the law as-is, driven by the largely failed war on drugs. The second are the legitimate users who use pot as an herbal alternative to other, man-made medications with more severe side effects. The third and final are the vocal, annoying majority. This majority are the weekend stoners, wanna-be rebels, sloths and the seeking-inspiration creatives.
While I do not take a personal desire in using pot recreationally, I do deal with them on a passing basis, as does every one of you. These were the guys whose debate topics in school were about the pro-marijuana movement. The ones that argued pot should be legal because “like, you can make clothes n’ stuff out of it” (that’s HEMP you twits, there are differences).

I have to say, I am very pro- medical marijuana at least. My girlfriend has epilepsy (horrible for a gamer), and medical mj has been the most effective treatment for her. Sure we could deal with pharmaceuticals for treatment, but their are a lot of side effects involved that make it unattractive compared to medical “marijuana”.
If you asked me personally, I would say I’m pro *cannabis* legalization. I think that as a nation, we shouldn’t allow something to be illegal for no just cause. Do you really think smoking cannabis is substantially more harmful then whip-its,cigarettes or alcohol? Do you really think the respected high school teacher/father that enjoys the occasional joint doesn’t contribute to society? The “Marijuana Culture” we have today is just a byproduct of social stigmas and prohibition. Alcohol prohibition wasn’t pretty either, yet it became re-legalized and is commonly accepted today.
Bottom line, keeping cannabis illegal costs tax payers money for no just reason.
