Title

Operation Chastity, the Halo fan-film, made a big and important step to realisation today with the unveiling of their custom made full size M12 ‘Warthog’ LRV  today at the London Expo. The beast is built on the chassis of an old Land Rover by the talented guys from Custom Creations and certainly looks the part complete with internals and a mounting point for your gun of choice.

Hit the break for more details on Operation Chastity and some choice shot of the Warthog in full glory.

Peter

Taking a full year to put together, the completed warthog moves the fan-flick onto the next stage, which is due to start filming next March 2010 if everything goes to plan. By November 2010, Peter Cooper (pictured above) the Writer, Director and Producer of this epic undertaking, is hoping to enter post-production, which should last about 8 months. With a bit of luck, lots of blood and sweat and a bit of will power, we might start seeing the finished masterpiece sometime in the second half of 2011. To make things even better, according to Mr. Cooper himself, you may even be able to own a little piece of this Halo universe as the props, costumes and uniforms (including the 100 or so Spartan Marine outfits) will go on sale after the films release.

Now I don’t know about you but I’m absolutely stoked by the thought of a Halo film and having met Peter, I can assure you that the fan-flick is in safe hands. So if you want to support the film, get behind the crew and check out Operation Chastity and follow them on Twitter (@opchastity). In the mean time, check out the gallery of the impressive Warthog below.

Well, looks amazing, but you can get the visuals down but if the story is utter rubbish -the hard work is for nothing…

Hundreds of Spartans? There are only 33 in the official canon…oh well, I suppose it doesn’t matter if they break it.

I like the Warthog better without the chaingun. When you think about it, it would be pretty useless in a real-life scenario – even the Bungie designers know a real person would go flying if they used it while it was moving, without proper restraints. And it just looks more streamlined too.

I’d be very interested in how they would replicate the South American jungles, too – I wouldn’t imagine native British forest would bear much resemblence to rainforest.

The steering wheel is on the wrong side :(

Lies! Besides, it’s likely the UNSC would have different variations, depending on where you were born.

Why would they make steering wheels on both sides? Remember all humans are under UNSC rule by this stage in history none of the each country (countries no longer exist) having their own rules to get in the road of having a one side for steering wheels :)

Also the front end of it is out of proportions so bad it looks like it was designed by someone working off an audible description of what it should look like. There are models, toys, and hours of footage (in engine) of what these things should look like. Weta got it more correct this looks like it’s run into something and the window is protruding way too far.

Actually, the UNSC do not control all Earth governments – the UEG (Unified Earth Government) is just an extention of the United Nations, and each country could be controlled as seen fit (though this has never been confirmed or denied in the books). Why would roads have to be universal? It’s a really petty issue in the grander scheme of things.

As for the front end, Glenn, the front end of the Weta Warthog looks almost exactly the same – http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/jalopnik/2009/02/Real-Halo-Warthog.jpg

Another great leap forward for the OC project and Director Pete Cooper. Every aspect of the project has been handled with such dedication, professionalism and care. It’s wonderful to see each and every idea behind the movie become a physical reality.

Keep a close eye, I’m sure Operation Chastity is just the beginning for Cooper.

You know, when Peter asked me to make the recruitment poster featuring the Warthog for this unveiling we both knew that somebody was going to say the wheel was on the wrong side. So, here’s the reason for a RHD (Right Hand Drive) Warthog.

The Warthog, like most UNSC vehicles, is designed around a modular system. This allows for the swapping out of a mounted M41 LAAG (Light Anti-Aircraft Gun), M68 mounted Gauss cannon, a 102mm SC-HE rocket turret, or a troop transport compartment. Because of this modular design, and the fact that the Warthog uses a “drive by wire” control system, the Warthog can be reconfigured to fit almost any need of the soldiers who are operating it, including changing the side on which the steering wheel is located.

Now, that’s not cannon but it makes quite a bit of sense when you think about it. Also, a tidbit that is cannon, a RHD Warthog would not have a unique identification number. It would be the same as a LHD (Left Hand Drive) Warthog.

That turret also offers horrible protection for the gunner. A single good hit and he or she wouldn’t be able to shoot much, all that vibration and a bullet wound? Ouch!

    HI-
I’m Dan, and I made this beast for and with Pete Cooper. I did take a year to do- but part time I must add! The budget on this was ‘tight’ so it was an evening job for me in my spare time;-)
I found Glenn’s comments above a bit harsh- seeing as we scaled DIRECTLY from a Licensed Mcfarlane toy!- check out:

    http://www.themodelmaker.co.uk/WarthogDiary/Buildup06sml.jpg/bmi_orig_img/Buildup06sml.jpg

    and

    http://www.themodelmaker.co.uk/WarthogDiary/warthog.html

To see the actual toy, and how its windshield is in 3d reality and how it matches ours ;-) Any other points are mainly budget lead- we simply hadn’t the money for some of the more radical stuff- hence the sectioned windscreen.
Check out some upcoming articles for some more pictures.
