.hack//Alcor is the story of Nanase, a teenage girl who plays a really popular online game called The World. While playing this game she falls in love with Silabus an incredibly nice guy who, interestingly enough, is her Guildmaster. How typical, right? Unfortunately, Silabus seems more interested in a female player called Alkaid. But he’s not the only one. Why is that? Well, she’s the undefeated Arena Emperor. In other words, she’s BADASS!

Nanase realizes after a while that, on top of being jealous of Alkaid, she’s also been unconsciously trying to copy her in every possible way. But Nanase doesn’t have the skills to compete. What should she do to get Silabus’ attention? (more…)

Well, shit.

Well, this shit sucks.  I work at a small start-up company in a small 3 story building. Floors 2 and 3 all share the same restroom, while floor 1 has their own. For the past 2 weeks, some guy or guys have clogged the toilet. It has become so bad that, 3 days ago, the landlord had to go and talk to every office and tell each head honcho that someone in the building is clogging it.

Today, I had to take a shit and saw that the toilet was clogged once again. Does this person have no sympathy for the janitor and others that must drop kids off at the pool?

Apparently not. Thank god the first floor restroom was squeaky clean. So, I did my business there. After I finished up my business, I decided to leave a note on the stall door of the clogged toilet. Below is what the note says. (more…)

Automatic Super Mario World and Queen Mash-Up [Video]

YouTube Preview Image

The same person who has done the Automatic Super Mario World video that went in sync (not n’sync) with an odd 10 minute song is back. But, this time, he or she has risen the bar. Not only by doing a mash-up of Super Mario World with Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” But by using 4 screens and putting it all together. Confused? Yea, just watch the vid above. When you’re done, be sure to pick up that jaw.

The CrunchPad is dead

Crunchpad-dead

It’s my sad duty to report that the CrunchPad, Michael Arrington’s web browsing tablet has been killed by a fall out between the manufacturing partners and Tech Crunch. As Arrington himself tells it, 2 days before the official launch of the product the manufacturers Fusion Garage, pulled the rug out from under the Tech Crunch team and have apparently decided to make it without them. As Arrington put it so succinctly:

Err, what? This is the equivalent of Foxconn, who build the iPhone, notifying Apple a couple of days before launch that they’d be moving ahead and selling the iPhone directly without any involvement from Apple.

Now, Fusion Garage have yet to have their say but it sounds like the shareholders decided they wanted a bigger slice of the pie. I’m not sure how they’re going to get away with selling a product that they both have IP for, but I’m sure the courts will be involved.

It’s a real shame because whatever you think of Arrington, I know a cheap internet browsing tablet would have been up almost everyone’s streets and I was very much looking forward to it’s launch. So for what it’s worth, I’m sorry for Mr. Arrington and his CrunchPad team, I thought it was a terrific idea.

What’s all the fuss about Google Chrome OS?

chrome_logoFor those who’ve been hiding under a rock for the last month, Google showed off a preview of it’s Chrome OS to the ever expectant tech world. They also made available some developer releases of the OS and detailed what it can and more importantly can’t run on.

So, what’s Chrome OS (COS) all about? Well you’ve seen the big G’s Chrome web browser, it’s quick, it’s slick and it’s minimalist. Guess what? Chrome OS is basically more of the same. It’s Chrome the browser stretched into an OS front end that’s built on top of Linux, where everything including accessing files is done through the browser. OK, sounds interesting, but what about apps? Well, COS relies on web apps, which have been integrated into the browser using persistent app tabs. Applications like Hulu, Gmail, Gdocs, Twitter and Facebook are all up there ready for when you need them. Applications that typically run in the background, like Gtalk, have application windows that can be minimised to ‘panels’ down at the bottom of the screen keeping them out of the way till you need them. Google’s also built a pretty good notification system into the OS that pulls in notifications for new email, pushed updates from IM, calendar and Twitter, replicating some of the best features from many of today’s mobile phone OS. The ethos of the OS is just like that of the browser, get out of your way and do it fast. (more…)

BBC iPlayer iPhone App on the way? [Updated: Nope, says the BBC]

iPlayer-iPhoneThe BBC send out a press-pack once a month, that normally just includes viewing statistics and other mundane stuff like that. Of course those looking to see what the uptake of BBC’s iPlayer normally find useful stuff in there but the last one included a special gift (.ppt) for the rest of us, two images of an iPlayer iPhone app as seen above. OK, so the BBC has had an iPhone optimised iPlayer stream and webapp since March 2008, but this beauty of a screen shot shows downloads and streaming right within the app. Using data on the app will probably be limited to WiFi, as shown in the picture, but if it’s got a similar download system to the desktop app there’s nothing stopping you downloading and taking your fave programs on the road.

As leaks go, one from the BBC themselves is pretty conclusive, whether we’ll actually ever see the app I guess rests on whether Apple shows it some love or not. UK users, watch this space.

UPDATE: Looks like the Beeb is denying it.
