HD phone calls coming to the UK in 2010

The audio quality of mobile phone calls often leaves a lot to be desired. On GSM only, calls are a tinny low-bitrate affair and although 3G has gone some way to increasing the quality of calls, there’s certainly some room for improvement; maybe HD can help.

Sports Illustrated Tablet Demo and iSlate Rumors

YouTube Preview Image

Would ya’ looky here.  SI has posted a demo video what what their interactive magazine could look like on a glossy touch screen tablet.  This table does look sort of like an oversized iPhone.  But the top of it says Time Inc.  This demo has been around for a while. But it does look like it could work on something much bigger than just an e-reader.

Now, with all the rumors going around the internets and blog o’ sphere, I think its safe to say that come January 26th, Steve will be unveiling a tablet.  A senior Apple employee even said:

“I can’t really say anything, but, let’s just say Steve is extremely happy with the new tablet.”

Here is a run down of the rumors that we have heard so far:

  • Will cost more than a, iPhone. (duh)
  • Will cost less than a MacBook.
  • Will will a virtual keyboard like the iPhone
  • Will be glossy
  • Will be shiny
  • Will come with free black turtle neck sweatshirts

So, what say you tech and gadget geeks? If the new decade starts with the iSlate, will you be standing in line at your local Apple retailer?

Pixel Breakfast Question: What are you playing on NYE?

2009 is finally coming to and end and many geeks are already welcoming 2010 with open arms.  Thanks to the many rumors of the iSlate and Nexus One. So, fellow geeks. What will you be playing or doing on your last day of a very innovative decade?

I have family over and we’ll be playing Rock Band, Wii Sports Resort and Settlers of Catan. Also, when the girlfriend comes over, we’ll be playing a little bit of Team Fortress 2.  She’s starting to like it. (w00t!) Maybe we can make some more geeky memories to add to the old Tales of Geek Dating stories.

Let us know your plans in the comments below. Happy New Year everyone!

Lego Battlecruiser operational

I’m a big fan of Lego bricks.  But never have I made something with Lego bricks without the instruction manual.  Maybe I don’t have a good enough imagination.  I’m also a big fan of Lego sets that create spaceships and helicopters.  Lego builder, Jerac, has created a Starcraft Battle Cruiser.  The level of detail that Lego builders have is unbelievable.

Amazingly Accurate BTTF DeLorean On eBay

Not happy with your whip? Well if you happen to be a huge fan of Back to the Future, you can actually bid to get a DeLorean of your own.

“This is the most screen accurate Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine replica to ever appear on eBay. It is a real masterpiece. You might be asking yourself why it’s so expensive? Well, try to build a super-accurate Delorean Time Machine yourself, and you’ll quickly see how time consuming it is. That last 20% of accuracy takes 500% more time and effort.

This incredibly accurate replica of the Delorean Time Machine was painstakingly built by Gary Weaver, owner of www.bttfparts.com, over the course of 2 years, from 2006-2008. This is the only car Gary has ever built on commission, and, other than his own personal car, is the only one he has finished to his complete satisfaction.”

For more pictures of this awesome vehicle, and  to find out how much it actually costs to buy such a masterpiece click after the break….

Another WoW Machinima, Yet Not Half Bad

I am admittedly NOT a WoW fan in the least, but this video was just too catchy to pass up. Anyone familiar with the 007 franchise will get what the creator was driving at here:
