Remember that expensive cereal? Childs play.

So a little bit ago I made a post about a box of cereal that someone thought was worth a couple of hundred bucks. Now a new auction has made that purchase look downright frugal. In a recent auction a sealed copy of Namco Bandai’s Stadium Events sold for a record 41,300 dollars. Real American dollars. Seriously.

This is worth more than your car

Check this link for a list of other ridiculously expensive games. Then imagine all the Playstation 3’s, Wii’s, and Xbox 360’s you could buy with that money.

Sorry, Blackstreet: we DO want Diggity

So, I have this friend at the improv club where I perform named Dave Dobson.  If you don’t know him, he is not only a hilarious improviser, geology and computer science professor at Guilford College (scroll down, second one on the page), and excellent gamer, he also happens to be the creator of several fine games.  If your GPA suffered sophomore year like mine did, it was probably because of a little game called Snood.  That game is Dave’s.  As is the one heralded in the banner above.  Dave just recently premiered Diggity, a strategic card game that makes Gold Rush mining more exciting than a Jessica Simpson sarsaparilla.  Though I imagine that sarsaparilla would look really good but then taste like an idiot in your mouth.  Also, I found out that sarsaparilla is spelled this way because of this repost.  Who knew?  DO go check out this game and Dave’s other creations around the web.  I’ve talked with Nelson, and we’re even going to try to get Dave on a podcast in the future.  GO DIGGITY!

Min/Maxing for the real world

Min/Maxing, a concept that we use all the time in video games and Table Top RPGs can be easily brought into real life. Here are some tips and tricks on how we can twink yourself into an unstoppable munchkin.

For the ones in the dark over the terminology I gotcha Boo. Min/Maxing is a character building concept that attempts to minimize your weakness and bolsters your strengths. For example making sure that as the party healer that you are healing very well or often, or as the party tank that you can take the hits and dish them right back. What the party healer doesn’t need to worry about is the damage dealing and the tank doesn’t have to worry about skill checks that don’t involve Athletics or Endurance.

Tesla Roadster for $1,658 a month

If you’ve ever fancied yourself an electric sports car you can’t go far wrong with a Telsa. Practically the only downside of owning a Tesla is the $111,005 you have to plunk down to take one out of the show room. Well Tesla now has an answer for all those people who just aren’t sure they have $111,005 to spend, lease to buy a Roadster or Roadster Sport. What the essentially means is spreading the cost over several years, but in effect means you can drive one away with $12,453 down and 36 monthly payments of just $1,658 plus tax.

Yes, that wheel could be yours for $1658 a month

OK, just $1,658 may not sound like a great deal, but we are talking about one of the most exotic sports cars money can buy here. Once you’re 3 years leasing is up you can either chose to buy your Tesla paying the remainder or return it and go jump in a gas-guzzler.

Your Friday Fix 02/26/10: Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Your Friday Fix 02/26/10: Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Genres: Comedy, Romance, Science Fiction (slightly)

Fumizuki Academy, like most good schools within comedic anime, has some quirky policies. The first is their grading and sorting system. Each year, students are put through a comprehensive examination to determine their rank for the school year. Class A students spend the year learning in a palatial hall with top of the line computers, books and snack service. Class F students have worn out tables, under-stuffed bean bags and ratty floor mats to keep them company. The rest of the classes fall in between at various levels of splendor to squalor. Our story follows a second year student named Akihisa Yoshii, Class F.

Akihisa is joined in Class F by one of the smartest girls in the school, Mizuki Himeji. Mizuki fainted from fever during the placements test and was disqualified with a zero grade; leaving the class during the test meant failure. She has a crush on Akihisa because he was kind to her. Minami Shimada is the only other girl in Class F and hides her feeling for Akihisa behind random brute violence toward him; they are childhood friends. Yuuji Sakamoto is the representative of Class F and is friendly with Akihisa; he treats him as a side-kick at times. Yuuji is rather smart but is unmotivated by grades, so he failed his way into Class F. Kouta Tsuchiya is the resident pervert of the class and excels in health education related subjects, partly due to his perverted study of the female form. Hideyoshi Kinoshita rounds out the main group of Class F students and is extremely feminine in appearance. He hates the fact that he is frequently mistaken for a female. Hideyoshi’s twin sister is in Class A.

The various classes are allowed to challenge one another to an Examination Summons Battle (ESB) where the students test scores power a summoned being (shoukanjuu) to fight for them. If a classes’ representative is beaten, or other set terms met, the match is over. Winners can take the losers rooms, items and/or pride as a prize. Class F starts the year off right by challenging Class E to an ESB on the first day of class. Due to Yuuji’s strategy, the balance of Class F hold off Class E until Mizuki could complete a makeup test, there-by powering up her shoukanjuu to Class A level. Yuuji decides that Class F will not take Class E’s room because as long as they have nothing to lose, they will be fearless. Class F is then challenged by Class A (to put them in their place), so Yuuji plots to take Class A’s room but this ends in a miserable defeat due to his overestimating his own abilities in Japanese history. Class A’s representative, Shouko Kirishima, makes Yuuji go on a date with her as her prize.

This series is pretty fun to watch and while stocked with some nearly “template” character types, keeps some degree of interest in them. So far the series is a bit perverse without being overtly crude (except for that Kouta guy, always trying to peep).

Overall Hook Rating: B

Side note… I’ve been at this for over a year already? Wow, Anime Ima turned 1 and I missed its birthday -_-

Indie Review: The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

Indie Review: The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

If your like me, you have always thought that having a clone of yourself would make things a lot easier. You could have your clone do chores, get you something to drink, and in the case of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, help you get pie. That is the angle The Odd Gentlemen, the games developer, have taken with their debut title. A quirky puzzler with a silent film style art design, P.B. Winterbottom offers a nice pick up and play feel that a lot of people can enjoy.

Borderlands PC updates to 1.30

Borderlands PC updates to 1.30

Gearbox has finally gotten around to releasing a much needed patch for the PC version of Borderlands.  The patch includes a few balance changes and some much needed fixes for items in the game. One fix that some PC gamers might not like is the game will no longer load invalid weapons into the game. With a lot of gamers taking advantage of the modding capabilities the game offers, some might want to wait on updating.  The patch arrives the same day as the DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, is released for PC. See below for the list of things being fixed in the patch.

Addressed issues:

  • Invalid weapons or items can no longer be loaded into the game
  • Brick’s Centurion class mods now regenerate health correctly
  • Brick’s Bombardier class mods now regenerate rockets correctly
  • Roland’s Tactician class mods now regenerate shields correctly and display the correct bonus values
  • Roand’s Rifleman class mods now apply damage increase to all machine guns
  • Certain powerful legendary item names should now be displayed in the appropriate color
  • Opening the bank in the Mad Moxxi DLC no longer prevents other players from moving
  • Multiple copies of DLC missions can no longer be obtained
  • Corrected some incorrect icons in the ammo vendor
  • Fixed a crash caused by killing the final boss while zoomed in with a scope
  • The “Careful, he bites” achievement should now properly unlock when playing in French
  • Added icons to the server browser that indicate which DLCs the server has installed
  • The server browser now displays the name of the DLC a server is playing instead of the plot mission
  • Adjusted scrolling in menu options in long server lists
  • Added a notification if a player attempts to continue a game saved in DLC that is no longer installed
  • Fixed DLC notification dialogs that were not closing properly
  • Alt-F4 no longer closes the game if it is not in focus

Balance adjustments:

  • Chests in New Haven have been adjusted to contain more appropriate loot
  • The duration of daze effects has been reduced to 6 seconds, and the amount by which it decreases the speed of enemies and their projectiles has been reduced
  • Damage from shock elemental effects has been increased
  • Repeater pistol damage has been slightly increased, accuracy slightly decreased
  • Sniper Rifle critical hit bonus has been increased
