So keeping up with the spirit of Fat Geek and the Level up posts about health, because Spring has sprung, and it is fantastic outside I am going to give a big ol’ shout out to my absolute favorite nerdy Food Website Summer Tomato by Darya Pino (Follow her @summertomato on twitter). Darya is first of all a wonderful writer about food and her love and excitement for really good food that is good for you pours though her posts. As for geek cred she is a USCF scientist working on her PhD in neuroscience, contributes to the Huffington Post, a Berkley graduate, and if my guesses are true can telepathically communicate with plants and bid them to do her will.
Her goal is to teach us about our Healthstyles which is a new term, due to the word diet being so vague and
misunderstood. How does she do this? By getting us to eat our veggies, and actually enjoy it. Something that I have learned over the years to actually enjoy, I will always now take a handful of dates and figs over chips if possible. It’s a learning curve and she helps lead you into it not by force or intimidation, but easy steps and practices that you can do with a little bit of know how. One of my favorite parts about the blog and he writing is that it isn’t a bunch of Hippy Treehugging-dirt worshiping (I do love hippies though), it’s science that fuels the work. Science and great seasonal foods. She has a number of wonderful posts on Science, Farmers Markets, and Cooking, but one thing you HAVE to check out is her free E-book “How to Start Eating Healthy” by Darya Pino. It gives you a great foundation in a very short amount of time, and essential to all the people that have no clue What to put into their bodies or Why.
Very tasty information, very tasty foods, now if you will excuse me I need to head out to a Co-Op (Not a multi-player game written by Meghan, but the food place) and get some greens.
