I’ve owned the PS3 for quite sometime but I’ve always been on the look out for a Wireless Text Pad. Much like the one I have for the 360. I’ve looked into the Sony version but have been scared away by the Price and Design. Lucky for me Hyperkin has got my back with the PS3 Text Link Remote. Essentially combining a Wireless Remote with a slide out Keyboard. How does the product hold up compared to other text pads.
Design
I was really excited to get to try out the Text Link Remote. Figuring that it could be that in between device that covers my remote and keyboard needs. The Text Link remote is a smaller cellphone sized Remote. It has a very nice weight to it, not to heavy but still heavy enough not to feel cheap. The top of the Remote has most of your button needs. At first the layout was a little confusing but after a while I got used to it. I wasn’t to impressed with the layout of the Stop, Play and Pause buttons. Arranged as Stop, Play and Pause going from left to right. This felt a little strange and found myself hitting the wrong buttons when I wasn’t looking at the remote.
Features
The Remote itself connects to the PS3 via a Wireless Dongle. While I’m not a huge fan of Wireless Dongles I felt it was a descent sized device. Not small enough that it’s easy to lose but at the same token not to large where it seems out of place. The Remote also comes with a USB cord that is used to charge the device. I found this was a pretty nice feature addition that I wasn’t expecting. I actually had a wide variety of batteries ready to go at a moments notice. (Even took the ones out of my Guitar Hero Guitars
)
Keyboard
The Remote’s biggest feature is it’s slide out keyboard. It slides out nice and easy and makes a cool little noise. Makes you feel very high tech. The layout on the keyboard was very interesting. The Keyboard features Dual Analogs on either side of the remote. The Left side of the Remote features Directional Arrows for a D-Pad while the right side has the PS3 Buttons. Allowing for the remote to be a substitute for a controller. In the middle of the Keyboard is where the Text Buttons are. While I was impressed originally by the layout when it came time to use it I felt it was a tad difficult. I did however adjust to the remote but it wasn’t the easiest of experiences. Though I do have larger hands then most, so this could be the perfect fit for others.
Overall
A pretty interesting addition to the PS3 accessories. It does function as a pretty descent remote, though the keyboard leaves something to be desired. If you are looking for that in between device and have smaller hands this certainly could be up your alley.
