Guild Wars 2 Panel at NYCC

At the New York Comic Con panel, Arena.Net answered many questions the crowd had about Guild Wars 2 and made the crowd even more excited about the upcoming game. Guild Wars 2 will be incredibly different than the original. Arena.Net explained many things about how the world will be, how some of the economy will work, what professions to expect, and some other small details.

The first huge change that was mentioned was that the world will now be an open world. Once you leave the main city, it will no longer be your own copy of the outside world; you will share with other players. There will no longer be sharing on a huge server; now they will split it into many servers, allowing interactions with other players wherever you go not only in the main cities.

During the panel discussion they were asked if there will be any sort of auction house. What the Arena.Net people did is pretty awesome;they created this “market place” that has the same functions as auction houses. However, this marketplace will be accessible outside the game. So they will allow us to know what’s going on with the item we’re selling on the internet. Eventually, I can see this happening on the Guild Wars 2 application.

They also talked a bit about what is going to be available on the GW2 application. They said they will work on it more as the release of the game draws nearer. As of now, they are saying it will be available to download on the Droid and iPod; it isn’t available for the Blackberry due to some problems with the contract, but they will try and get that handled. One aspect that the application is currently focusing on is moderating your friends list; they didn’t speak much on this, but I could imagine you could check who will be online and maybe even chat with them.

As you all may know, Arena.Net has announced four professions that will be in the game: Elementalist, Warrior, Ranger, and Necromancer (all of which were in the previous Guild Wars). However, they didn’t announce any new professions at NYCC but they did give us small clues. They said there will be four more professions, releasing one featured, one returning, one similar, and one completely new. They also said there will be no primary healers.

They also talked a little bit about Player vs. Player and events. They said that PVP is still “in development”; on this, all they really said was that we can expect Competitive PVP, and World vs. World. They also mentioned a little bit about events: there will be ongoing events that the players will have to take care of, and, if players fail to complete the event, it will change the world. This change will not be permanent, and the events will be repeated.

It seems that Arena.Net is working hard on the new Guild Wars, and it will be something to look forward to.
