Warner Bros has just named the two villains that will face off against Batman in The Dark Knight Rises.
While it’s been known for some time now that Tom Hardy had signed on for the next Batman film, the role in question was still up in the air. Speculation was that he would be playing Dr. Hugo Strange. Thanks to today’s press release we can now confirm he will be portraying Batman’s villain Bane, possibly the most intimidating of Batman’s foes.
Rumors had also been spreading about multiple actresses being considered for the role of a new (to Nolan’s franchise) female character. Anne Hathaway has been confirmed as a memeber of the cast and will be playing Catwoman. Warner Bros also announced a release day for the film: The Dark Knight Rises is expected out on July 20, 2012. This release date will set the film against the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers film.
It will be interesting to see, but based on the history of these two directors, I gotta give this one to Christopher Nolan.
