Spare Change: Killzone 3 Helghast Edition

Guerilla Games’ Killzone 3 hits the battlefield with a massive collector’s edition for Playstation 3. Is it worth your Spare Change for your trophy wall, or does it get lost in the rubble?

The Helghast Edition comes with a replica Helghast Soldier Helmet with great battle damage detail. It slides up from the base, revealing room to store both the game and the art book: very similar to the Halo 3 Legendary Edition Helmet. Just the helmet is worth the money.

Also included is a six inch action figure depicting a “Cloaking Helghast Marksman” which has moveable limbs and is exclusive to this edition. The packaging is nice because you don’t have to damage the box to remove it. It is meant to be taken out and displayed. The figure is solidly made and would go great with anyone’s action figure collection.

Also included is an art book, the game and a Super Voucher. The art book is hardbound and contains 100 pages of concept art and other images; a quick thumb through, but well appreciated. The Super Voucher contains a great deal of content, including the soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes bonus video and the Retro Map Pack from Killzone 2. I wish the soundtrack and behind- the- scenes video were on the separate physical disc — just my preference.

The DLC includes a generous double XP for the first 24 hours of multiplayer play. It unlocks all the weapons for each class for 24 hours. The only disadvantage is that it is on a 24 hour clock, not a play clock, so don’t redeem it until you are ready to settle down and play.

It is definitely worth the extra $60 for the Collector’s Edition. If you are a true Killzone fan, you will want to proudly display your Helghast Helmet and enjoy the extra physical and downloadable content.
