Top 5 Mortal Kombat Characters

The latest Mortal Kombat arrives next Tuesday, and WB Games hopes to usher many fans with a “throwback” style that returns everything gamers love about the bloody fighter. Mortal Kombat has never been afraid to experiment, and, while that hasn’t always worked out (Babalities surely stand out), the fighter has managed to come up with some pretty memorable characters. With so many characters, it’s a difficult task to narrow them down, but these were the characters I just couldn’t leave out. So here are my Top 5 Mortal Kombat Characters.

5) Liu Kang

Liu Kang is easily one of the most important characters in Mortal Kombat. Liu Kang, in his classic red and black, is the ultimate good guy in the Mortal Kombat universe. The main character in the films, his classic bicycle kick had children all over attempting to defy gravity with their own variation. I guess it is slightly more possible than throwing fireballs. But just barely.

4) Kung Lao

Kung Lao has the baddest hat this side of Odd Job and boy does he know how to wield it. It seems to me that the developers were sitting around trying to think of what could be better than a guy whose hat is a deadly weapon and decided that the only thing better would be a guy with deadly head ware…who was also a ninja. I think they made a beautiful decision.

3) Kitana

Representing the lovely deadly ladies of Mortal Kombat on my list, I’m giving the nod to Kitana over Sonya Blade. Growing up with an evil dad is tough, but finding out he’s also not your real dad and adopted you once he conquered your parents kingdom is rougher. Swearing revenge on Shao Kahn, she joins the Earthrealm warriors and fights the good fight.

2) Scorpion

“Get over here” is muttered more times in my household than “I just showered” or “I just cleaned that.” The man in yellow and black personifies what Mortal Kombat is all about. The complete package, he has everything you could ask for in a Mortal Kombat character. Cool design? Check. An easily identifiable move? Check. A skull for a face? Double check.

1) Sub-Zero

What can I say? It’s my list, and I love the coldest man in the game. Freezing people and then shattering them never gets old.
