Survivor Zero Aims to Create an Open-World Zombie Game

Zombie games are certainly not rare these days.  They also certainly attract a large gaming crowd.  And while gamers are mostly pleased with the generic zombie shoot-em-up game, the usual formula does get a little old.

Enter the developers working on a game entitled Survivor Zero, which totes itself on not just using brute strength to defeat the post-apocalyptic zombe hordes but “creativity and logic in order to survive.” The developers released their very first public update regarding the game today.

The developers,a group of Redditors, heeded the feedback of those tired of the same-old zombie game, where massive gun power and physical strength are the only options for surviving in the levels.  Their aim is to develop what is one of the first “immersive, free-roaming zombie game… Where food and shelter are more important than weapons.”

Currently the game is still in its infancy. We’ve no flashy videos or gameplay demos at this time, but we do have simple and honest updates regarding the basics of the game such as programming, sound and some concept art.  “The game is founded on the concepts of freedom in an isolated environment, ever present danger, and cautious creativity,” the developers said.

For now, these frequent Redditors are open to input and feedback regarding their open-world zombie game, and those interested can find a forum on their new subreddit here.

I for one, am excited to see where the developers can take a sandbox-type zombie game and how it can lead away from the more direct “blast everything you can” games.  Let’s hope the excitement found in the FPS games can be found in this one, too!

Be sure to check out their new website to check back for more updates.  A release date has not yet been set.
