Bioshock Infinite to Feature “1999 Mode.”

Have you found yourself playing a modern shooter/rpg and found yourself wishing it could be more like the games of your past?

Well the folks at Irrational Games had the same idea and polled their fans to see what they thought. Turns out a lot of people agree and Irrational Games announced today that Bioshock Infinite will have a game mode called “1999 mode.” This new mode will require the player to put serious thought into each of their decisions. Every upgrade, whether to player or to a weapon, will be sorely needed. Perhaps you made a less-than-ideal choice earlier in the game? Well looks like you have a rough path ahead as 1999 mode will make the player suffer if you make a choice against your play style.

1999 mode is not without mercy though, there are save points. Ken Levine, the Creative Director at Irrational Games, points out that, “there are game saves, and you’re gonna f***ing need them.” The changes that the new mode will bring to Bioshock Infinite are not just a simple shift of the difficulty levels. Player health will be measured on a different scale than normally and you will want to put thought into every shot placement as it could be the difference between life and death.

Looks like Bioshock Infinite is taking steps to reach both the new, modern, and nostalgic gamers out there. It is set to release in, well there really isnt a specific time just a vague, 2012.
