Last December, Kojima Productions shook the gaming world with the announcement of a collaboration with Platinum Games on the latest iteration of the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The initial trailer, revealed at the 2011 Video Game Awards, gave us a glimpse at what looked like a very significant departure from the standard Metal Gear title.
Now, in preparation for this year’s E3, Konami has unveiled a new trailer, providing another glimpse of what Kojima Productions and Platinum games have in store for 2013.
Taking place several years after the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, Revengeance finds Raiden dragged back into battle in a world gone wrong following the fall of the Patriots. Showcasing what Platinum Games does best, the action and combat looks quite solid, leaving no doubt that the development team is intent on making the game as good as they possibly can.
However, the question that remains to be answered at this point is just how much of a Metal Gear game Revengeance will be. While stealth gameplay was briefly present in the trailer, the game itself looks to be a rather brutal one, bringing into question whether the game will fit in with the tone of the franchise.
Set for release in early 2013, a demo of the game is scheduled to be included with the retail version of the upcoming Zone of the Enders HD Collection this fall and will be made available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live at a later date. Until then, only time will tell what this new generation of Metal Gear will bring to the table.
