Giant Spacekat launches Kickstarter for Revolution 60

On July 31 independent studio Giant Spacekat launched the Kickstarter for upcoming iPad title Revolution 60.

Described as “Heavy Rain meets Mass Effect,” and “a complex cinematic experience, where story and choice are paramount,” Revolution 60 is an unusual title on the mobile market. This narrative title topped the list of best games at PAX East 2013, features choice-based story mechanics and full voice acting. Players step into the shoes of Holiday, an assassin for the international spy group Chessboard, seeking to prevent an accidental nuclear war when an American orbital weapons platform drifts off-course.

Revolution 60 is extremely close to completion for the mobile market. The Kickstarter was launched to polish the game and take advantage of the Unreal engine’s cross-platform abilities. If successful, the Kickstarter will allow Revolution 60 to be released for PC and Mac with revised interface functions.

A story-heavy game for the mobile platform isn’t unheard-of, but it’s certainly an unusual venue. Revolution 60 has impressive production ambitions for a mobile title, including facial animation, multiple endings, moral choice systems and voice acting. Could Revolution 60‘s ambitions signal a shift in the genre, opening up more narrative entries?

The Kickstarter will run for 30 days, with a minimum $10 contribution. For more information on Revolution 60, check their Kickstarter or the official site. The full press release is included below.

“Revolution 60 is a complex cinematic experience, where story and choice are paramount, as players make moral choices that decide the fate of heroine Holiday. In this crucial mission players are cast as Holiday, a Chessboard assassin who must decide if her loyalty is to her friends or to the mission. Featuring an all female cast starring anime legends Amanda Winn-Lee and Marieve Herrington, players undertake a series of missions, and make difficult moral choices that have significant effects on the game outcome so that every ending is different.
Revolution 60 is a story of intense character conflict where the main character lives or dies based on the player’s choices. Featuring some of the most complex animation on iOS to date, including full facial animation using Unreal, Revolution 60 also features intuitive, fluid combat, optimized for touch screen. Featuring detailed animations using the Unreal engine and gameplay that is accessible to the casual iOS user as well as mechanics suited to hardcore players.
