New Releases BluRay/DVD for Tuesday August 6th

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the visionary director of Tron: Legacy. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Not a bad movie really. Little slow in sections but it makes up for it in how it’s filmed: Beautiful scenery, great shots, and wonderful effects. Please check out our original review and thoughts.

Based on the iconic novel by Jack Kerouac, the movie tells the timeless story of Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a young writer whose life is shaken and ultimately redefined by the arrival of Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund, TRON: Legacy), a free-spirited, fearless, fast-talking Westerner and his girl, Marylou (Kristen Stewart, The Twilight Saga). Traveling cross-country, Sal and Dean venture out on a personal quest for freedom from the conformity and conservatism engulfing them in search of the unknown, themselves, and the pursuit of it – the pure essence of experience.

A mysterious gunman, Aman (Wesley Snipes), is the son of a nun who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. This act brings a curse upon Aman, that all those that die by his gun will return. Soon, a gang of his undead former victims hunt him down.

I don’t know anyone who saw this, but from what I can tell by the trailer this is a balls to the wall insane movie that looks like Blade in the old west. So, that could be awesome. Or perhaps it’s the worst thing ever, either way I can’t wait to see it!

81Qw+KhC7GL._SL1500_A Boy And His Dog (Collector’s Edition)

Based on the award-winning novella by acclaimed science-fiction author Harlan Ellison, A Boy and His Dog is a dark, twisted, and sometimes comical trip through a post-apocalyptic reality in the not-too-distant future.

This classic sci-fi tale follows the exploits of a young man, Vic (Don Johnson), and his telepathic dog, Blood, as they struggle through the barren wilderness. In the midst of their meager existence, they forage for scraps of food and battle ruthless gangs.

81m6SmU6rVL._SL1500_Action Jackson [Blu-ray]

Having built a name for himself playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, Carl Weathers hoped to launch his own action-hero franchise as the wishfully named Action Jackson.

81b8Vgm1bbL._SL1500_Passenger 57 [Blu-ray]

It’s Die Hard on a plane in this action thriller, starring Wesley Snipes as an antiterrorist specialist whose early retirement is interrupted when his flight is overtaken by a bloodthirsty master terrorist who escapes his captors and takes control of the airplane. Just remember: “Always bet on black”.

91pcSmGJqBL._SL1500_The Place Beyond the Pines

Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper star in this epic, riveting crime drama about the unbreakable bond between fathers and sons. 91SsJCa0GVL._SL1500_The Sapphires

TV Season on BluRay/DVD

91+n2o9D0NL._SL1500_Community: The Complete Fourth Season

The Study Group returns from summer break ready to tackle their fourth year of Community College.

It wasn’t the best season. But even with all the crap, there were a few episodes that were good, and with all the audio commentary the cast does and a gag reel, this DVD set might be worth it for those specials.

Smash: Season Two

In Season Two, Broadway-bound musical Bombshell has competition on its heels in the form of Hit List, a rock musical written by two Broadway newcomers that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of Bombshell’s team. As tension mounts on the road to Broadway, new romances are formed, loyalties are betrayed, and rivalries are reignited, all leading up to theater’s biggest night: The Tony Awards.

9115K4jjPTL._SL1500_Battlestar Galactica 35th Anniversary

A futuristic convoy of ragtag explorers search for a mysterious savior planet known only as “Earth,” while being pursued by the dreaded Cylons (cybernetic tin-can baddies with vocal patterns that closely resemble a Speak & Spell game). This theatrical feature culled from the first and fourth episodes of the fondly remembered TV show. It is hilariously outdated, but that only adds to the retro charm.

91W3XwFTArL._SL1500_The Borgias: The Third Season

Oscar winner Jeremy Irons stars in the saga of history’s most infamous crime family. Conspiring with his ruthless sons and poisonously seductive daughter, the charismatic Rodrigo Borgia will let nothing and no one stand in the way of his relentless quest for wealth and power. A high-octane, globe-spanning thriller with storylines ripped from today’s headlines, Strike Back is a one-hour drama focusing on two members of a top-secret British anti-terrorist organization known as Section 20: Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester), a married Brit who has moved from field work to training recruits as Season 2 opens, and Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton), a U.S. Delta Force operative, discharged on the eve of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, who made the most of his second chance to help Section 20 bring down an international terrorist last season.
