[PS4] Hands on with Knack

Next gen is but a week away, and if you were anything like me both consoles looked nice but you concern was the games. Now I haven’t had a lot of time with the PS4 but I did get a chance to sit down with Knack, An PSN title set to debut at launch with the PS4. Is it the next-gen you’ve been looking for?

This review is going to be shorter then most, as this was more a hands-on experience with the title.

Gameplay

We’re well versed with the 3rd Person fighting style of games. This is largely what Knack is, though there are a couple areas where the gameplay differs. While there is your basic attack moves, Knack has a knack (hah!) for dodging. The focus on evasion really helps spice up the gameplay. The unique mechanic of Knack is its hero’s ability to amass the pieces of destroyed items and get larger and stronger. However, if you get hit, well you lose some of that girth.

Graphics

Now this was still a demo of the game, not sure if the graphics will be beefed up with the retail version. From what I played it certainly looked like a PSN title. Not saying the graphics are bad, by all means it’s a solid looking title. Just didn’t feel next gen. That being said you could see the PS4’s power at work. Draw distance was great, and textures were quite high-quality.

Overall

I hadmuch more fun with this title then I was expecting. At just a first impression, it feels like a solid indie title to add to the PSN. It gives me hope that Sony is courting these developers so we’ll get more out-of-the-box thinking. While Knack isn’t something I would initially call next-gen, it was surprisingly fun and you could see the PS4 power at work.
