NERDS LIKE US: A Midnight Movie Experience

Star Wars hit theaters in 1977 and lines wrapped around theaters consistently, full of fans waiting for the chance to see a cinematic marvel… I wasn’t born yet. Ghostbusters debuted and quickly became a phenomenon in June of ’84… I wasn’t even 2 yet. And when Batman blew Bat-Fans minds in ’89 I was just a 7 year old little spookling… I never got to see it in theaters, until now.

Being born in the 80’s definitely seems to carry some sort of prestige, but unfortunately it means that many were too young to see the movies they now can quote at the drop of a hat. The experience of a theater full of excited movie goers is lost on them. That is unless they live in the Southern California area and follow NERDS LIKE US. A midnight movie series where die hard fans gather to see the movies they love in a way that some have never had the chance.

Led by Dark Helmet himself, Bernie Bregman, The Vista Theater, and a team of amazing nerds bring the classics of the 80’s and 90’s to silver screen for an experience that is unique and unlike nearly any movie screening around. Inside one of the most beautiful theaters Tinsletown has to offer and packed wall to wall with fantastic nerds, movies come alive with an enthusiasm and excitement that only eager fans can create.

Just last month NERDS LIKE US screened ’89’s Batman to a sold out crowd. This being something so unmissable, I made the 2 hour drive to Hollywood from San Diego just for the opportunity to see a film I’ve watched on repeat since I was 12, and it was more than worth it. Surrounded by fellow nerds and nerdettes the crowd lit up with every Nicholson line and every flash of Keaton’s bat-ears. The amazing night at the movies even started with a Batman Costume Contest! It will forever be the best time I will ever see this movie.

In October another sold out crowd celebrated the Halloween season with Hocus Pocus. Now ’tis the season for Nightmare Before Christmas playing this Friday for a crowd who’ll surely be singing along in a harmonious melody of nostalgia. Every month from there after another great movie will be chosen by the support of the crowd before it. Already being talked about is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Robocop, and Total Recall. I’ll definitely be back, again… and again.
