Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro Team Up For “Silent Hills”

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) have teamed up to produce the next game in Konami’s Silent Hill series. The game will star Norman Reedus, best known for his roles as Murphy McManus in the cult film The Boondock Saints and more recently as Daryl Dixon on the massively successful TV series The Walking Dead.

The game was announced via an interactive teaser trailer on the PlayStation Store. At the end of the trailer, we see a man walking down a typically Silent Hill-ian street. Del Toro and Kojima’s names flash across the screen before the man turns around to reveal Reedus’ face while Akira Yamaoka’s classic theme song plays in the background.

This is not the first gamers are hearing of the game, but it is the first time they are hearing of it by its proper name. The game was first revealed, in Kojima’s typically playful fashion, at Sony’s Gamescom press conference as P.T., from the fictitious “7780s Studio.” Kojima also mentioned the game earlier this year on his Twitter feed, expressing desire to make a game with Ryan Gosling and Norman Reedus. Gosling, it would seem, is not involved with the project.

The last Silent Hill game, Book of Memories, was released in 2012 for the PlayStation Vita. There is no word yet on console exclusivity.
