Academy Awards 2016: Appetizers for Your Party!

The Academy Awards are fast approaching. We are not attending, so we can eat what we want because we do not have to fit in that dress or tux! I personally love appetizers. I don’t like to eat a lot at once and appetizers are the perfect way to experience many different dishes in small bites. Here are some of my simple favorites that your friends will love.

Stuffed Mushrooms
1 pound button mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
Two 8 oz. packages of cream cheese, room temperature
½ cup bacon, cooked and chopped or use bacon bits
¼ cup green onion, chopped
1 tbsp garlic salt
½ cup Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients (not mushrooms) in a large bowl. Arrange mushrooms button side down on a cookie sheet or in a casserole dish. Spoon mixture into each mushroom button. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Pigs in a Blanket
1 oz package Little Smokies
1 package crescent rolls

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove crescent rolls from package. Roll out to form one piece of dough. Slice dough into small ½ inch x 2 inch segments. Wrap dough around smokie tightly. Arrange on cookie sheet. Bakes for 12 minutes or until dough is golden brown.
It wouldn’t be a bad thing if one fell on the floor for the dog!

Have a great time eating and judging all the ugly dresses on the red carpet. Come on, you know you do! If you need some recipes for drinks you can see my post about the history of cocktails since the Academy Awards started.
