Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Comics Coming Back

It’s been over ten years since Elvira had her own comic book, but Dynamite Entertainment has revealed that The Mistress of the Dark is getting a brand new comic, not to mention trading cards, posters and many other macabre collectibles featuring the horror icon made famous by actress Cassandra Peterson! No word just yet to when all these new items and comic series will begin showing up in stores, announcement at Comic-Con maybe. But one would assume this October is the time to start keeping your eyes open.

Her signature brand of sexiness, sarcasm and wit, Elvira rose to stardom in 1981 with her national syndicated show she hosted, Elvira’s Movie Macabre. For you young people, think Mystery Science Theater but with a horror hostess who put the boob, back into the boobtube. She quickly became a cultural icon and film. She is a universally recognized brand, a hallmark of Halloween in general, her own costume line, action and statue figurines, one of the best pinball machines ever, all sorts of Halloween décor, a make-up line full of gothic colors, and has been a great spokesperson for super huge brands like Coors and Pepsi during the Halloween season.

In the middle of the 1980s Elvira had her own comic series from several companies including DC Comics, Eclipse Comic and Claypool Comics. Over the years the comic had many name changes from Elvira’s House of Mystery or just Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. The comic was mostly bringing her brand of macabre and dark humor to several different stories. Just more of the further adventures of Elvira really: full of 1980s and 90s fun and are worth checking out if you find them. She had 166 issues plus two trade paperback collections, which can be found on Amazon or any local convention. Several famous writers and artist still working in the industry today were featured during the run.

Every year she ushers in the Halloween season with her many convention appearances, TV commercials, radio ads and even her own live stage show at Knott’s Scary Farm, which she has been hosting off and on for 30 years. And nothing seems to be slowing her down. So this new comic book series is a welcome back to fans and newcomers who discover her each year. Elvira is timeless and there will never be another! She is the first and greatest Halloween icon there will ever be.
