Review – Justice League 10

Just a quick word here to say look look Francis Manapul! I’ve been wanting to jump in on Justice League for a while, and not only do we have a new arc spinning up but it’s drawn by one of my favorite DC artists! I’m totally in. See below a review of this week’s Justice League #10.

In JUSTICE LEAGUE, when Wonder Woman learns that Cheetah gained new powers and killed the Greek sea god, Poseidon, that sets Aquaman off on a search for answers, bringing him into conflict with an entity known as the Flood. Who are those guys? Some very big fish—and you know what big fish do? Eat smaller fish like Aquaman and his Justice League buddies! Check out this first issue in an epic new event from Scott Snyder and Francis Manapul.

(Am I the only person who hopes that, if we’re seeing an entity called the Flood in a story called The Drowned Earth, we might also get to see the Dark Knights Metal character The Drowned? Please?

While I’m not caught up with what’s going on with Volcano Man, the Legion of Doom base, Starman, Jarro (“Starro in a jar,” hee) or Thanagar Prime’s gravity well, I can understand the present moment moving forward: the League is investigating a beacon being sent to space and a graveyard of frozen ships. What they find sets us up for the Drowned Earth saga in a way that anybody can jump in on this issue and understand the plot. (Side note: I will never get tired of Flash’s cheesy puns, never.)

And Manipul’s art really is gorgeous this issue, he handled the colors too and I can’t think of a single frame I’d change. The group of otherworldly people staring down at Aquaman was particularly cool, but I really loved everything.
