REVIEW: The Last Witch Hunter

Films featuring the supernatural have been in a slump for a while now. If it’s not about sad-sack vampires or the living dead taking over the Earth than audiences don’t seem to be asking for it. Enter The Last Witch Hunter and a little up and coming actor named Vin Diesel, he’s done some movies about cars or something. No stranger to action though and a fantasy geek at heart, Diesel serves as more than the star of this mystical movie, but also as Executive Producer. Word is that the main character of Kaulder is largely based on an old D&D character of Diesel’s.The-Last-Witch-Hunter-Poster

It’s Not Halloween Without Elvira!

It’s Not Halloween Without Elvira!

It’s the spooking season, and I would know. But it just wouldn’t be official without the Queen of Halloween herself, ELVIRA!  Thanks to Hulu, the Hostess with the Mostess is back to do what she does best, showing her fawning audience the goods! You know… showing off the best of the B-Movies!

Elvira has been sorely missed from the airwaves since her quest to find a successor in The Search of the Next Elvira in 2008, only making occasional TV and Film appearances.  Although that hasn’t kept her away from the stage as she’s recently returned to her live show at Knott’s Scary Farm, this year performing her Elvira’s Big Top dance and comedy show.  She’s also been co-hosting the Comikaze Expo with comic book legend Stan Lee since 2012, giving nerds the gothic fetish fix that they love so much.

Gather together you groovy ghoulies, the Queen is back!

Movie Issues: TUSK

In film these days the three act structure is law and modern audiences get confused when movies don’t go the way their sub-conscious minds are used to. Stories rarely surprise people these days; now the best we can get are moments in a movie that may trick us, but the story always remains the same. Writer, director, and podcaster Kevin Smith has squarely taken on the challenge of going against his comedy roots and the old film standards in his latest film, Tusk. Spun off from lark on one of his podcasts with BFF and long time collaborator (except this time), Scott Mosier, Smith took the concept that had him and listeners dying with laughter and turned it into the feature film out today.

The film is drastically dark and filled to the brim with treats for the podcast fans, but has the cult comedy icon made a movie too far out of his comfort zone and too inside Smodcast for audiences?

Constantine comes to NBC

DC Entertainment may be rushing their movie franchises and alienating their comic book readers, but at least fans can enjoy this fall’s TV selection.  Fans already knew about CW’s Arrow already confirmed for Season 3 back in February, but within the last week The CW also confirmed a go for the Flash spinoff series.  Not to be outdone, Fox then announced the pick up of the James Gordon centric (not Batman) show Gotham, then only days later released a teaser for it that got everyone talking.

Now just this past weekend NBC released the trailer for their new series Constantine, and the people agree that everything looks right.

Amazing Spider-man 2 Trailer

The beloved Web-Slinger swing back into theaters this May in Amazing Spider-man 2.  With what’s shaping up to look more like a Sinister Six movie with the addition of B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe, Peter Parker will definitely his hands full with Electro, Rhino, and as we saw more from this week’s Super Bowl trailer, Green Goblin.  Maybe Sony is in a rush to reboot the franchise again so they’re skipping the beloved Spider-man 2 and going straight to the much despised Spider-man 3?

The Super Bowl’s fact cut trailer couldn’t do much for Spidey-fans other than show off more of what they already know, Peter’s troubled because it’s hard to be a hero and keep it a secret, but everyone already knew that.  It’s not a bad trailer, it just doesn’t do anything for those of us who are still on the fence but you decide for yourself.

Captain America 2 Super Bowl Trailer

In what will be probably the best movie of 2014 (calling it now), Captain America 2: Winter Solider gave fans everything they wanted in a trailer.  In the 2:30 min the trailer completes its objectives of giving away a little more of the plot while adding tension and speculation.  At the same time it shows everyone what they’re gonna be in for without giving away big spoilers.  Now anyone probably reading this already knows the spoiler of the movie, but it’s still nice to see Marvel take good care of their story.  As an additional bonus, a good amount of screen time is given to new comer Anthony Mackie as Falcon in all his winged glory.

Check out the latest trailer here and let us know what you’re excited to see this year in the comment section below or on Facebook, Twitter, or at MovieIssues@Gmail.com
