Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m just a guy who has drawn comics most of his life.  I have always been into black and white indy comics more than mainstream, though I swear I am not hell bent on being punk rock, I just like my black and white comics.  I sort of worked my way up after doing a bunch of forgettable stuff and got a book called Chumble Spuzz with SLG Publishing which was nominated for an Eisner for Best Humor Publication in 2009.  I have a pilot optioned at Cartoon Network and most recently I am known as the guy who draws the web comic Axe Cop, which is written by my 5 year old brother.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello, my name is Yaya Han and I am a cosplay idol and costume designer currently residing in Atlanta, GA. I have been making costumes and modeling for over 10 years now and am one of the only cosplayers in the world to turn this hobbyist activity into a career. I guess you can say that I’m a household name in the world of geekdom. I travel world-wide to teach workshops and panels on costume making, and to judge contests and host events, not to mention constantly working on new costume projects. I have a lot of fun playing dress up every week but also work hard and never have a day off lol.

How to Solve a Rubik's Cube

Posted by: |

Oh the Rubik’s Cube. How many times have you found yourself bored out of your mind at your Grandma’s house while she rambles on about old lady things like gardening club and bridge when to your delight you notice a Rubik’s Cube laying around? Instant mindless enjoyment, just sitting there waiting to be had. And how many of us have found ourselves alone in our rooms hours later crying out in sheer denial that the cube can in fact be solved? And then you take the stickers off and make it look like you actually solved it. I feel no shame in admitting how many times I did that. Until last Christmas that is. I decided I was going to learn how to solve it. And this guy taught me how. Enjoy

I’m from Virginia and I moved out to California after getting an internship at Disney Interactive Studios. After my internship was up, I became a contract concept artist and did concepts and character designs for Epic Mickey. After my contract was up, I started working at DIS as a video game tester as I waited for a full-time artist position to open. But then I actually got promoted to the Brand/Legal Certification team because of my extensive knowledge of Disney and its properties which where I currently work.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Well I’m a recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Sequential Art Masters program and have been doing freelance artwork for the past few years. I’ve been published with companies, like Slave Labor Graphics, Mascot Books, Zuda Comics and 803 Studios. But what I’m most proud of is my first graphic novella that was distributed through Arctic Wolf Publishing, called My Dog is a Superhero. The book’s an old school Saturday morning inspired tale about a ten year-old afro-puffed diva-to-be, named Ashleigh who finds a cute little blue dog who turns out to be the kid-hero Wolfboy. And much to her chagrin, she ends up helping him catch other evil aliens disguised as pets, like the villainous Kid Squid. The comic came out last year and I’m hard at work on another one. I also just finished up a children’s book called Nadia’s Jewelry Box for HeartHead Publishing which should be out this month. I spend the rest of my time reading comics, playing Murmasa, and co-hosting a podcast for SCAD called Seqa Lab, with the occasional party thrown in for good measure.

I also have an unhealthy love of late 90′s pop music.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I work as a professor of Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design and am in the process of returning to self publishing comics. My latest project, “Cy and Rocket” is currently in progress and in the meantime I’m drawing a TF2 comic this winter break for fun. When I’m not drawing comics or teaching, I’m usually playing video games…copious amounts of video games.

What’s been your inspiration for art?

A lot of it can probably be attributed to being raised with video games and cartoons. I was definitely a Disney kid. I also spend quite a bit of time reading—news, books, forums, blogs—which help build new ideas. I should probably say my gaming buddies as well because, honestly, they always make me want to draw.

What supplies do you use for your art?
I just recently bought a Cintiq 12W and so now I’m working all digital, which saves an amazing amount of time and paper. I do everything freehand in Adobe CS3 with either the brush or pencil tool.

Any advice for beginners?
Be open minded and curious about everything. When Brandon Graham recently visited the college he told the students in his workshop something like “draw comics as if you’re being chased”. I honestly think this is amazing advice for any artist. You’ve really gotta throw yourself into it and attack the page. It’s really easy to get into the habit of saying “I’ll learn/do/draw that tomorrow”. Why not today?

The Crew here at Pixelated Geek wants to continue featuring these artist but we need your help. If you or someone you know would like to be featured as the Artist of the Week please drop me a line andrew@pixelatedgeek.com
