Recreational Vs Medical

As legislation continues to roll forward in the legalization of varying levels of marijuana consumption, I sit and muse… is this the biggest importance for us to deal with right now? Should the government give two shits about a medication that shows promise, just because of its origins/history?

There are three sides in the debate. The first being the law as-is, driven by the largely failed war on drugs. The second are the legitimate users who use pot as an herbal alternative to other, man-made medications with more severe side effects. The third and final are the vocal, annoying majority. This majority are the weekend stoners, wanna-be rebels, sloths and the seeking-inspiration creatives.

While I do not take a personal desire in using pot recreationally, I do deal with them on a passing basis, as does every one of you. These were the guys whose debate topics in school were about the pro-marijuana movement. The ones that argued pot should be legal because “like, you can make clothes n’ stuff out of it” (that’s HEMP you twits, there are differences).

When two tech giants clash, even those on the periphery will feel the tremors. The recent banning of the Google Voice App from the iPhone App Store and subsequent investigation by the FCC has spotlighted a few major issues in the emerging mobile world.

Is this REALLY something the Government should be getting involved with? What are your thoughts?

Tuesday Musing: Visual Kei

A recent special on the ongoing Visual Kei movement in Japan and abroad (in this case Paris) had brought about my questioning of the style in general. While the style is noted as being a creation of the 80’s with groups like Malice Mizer, etc… it is interesting to look back at some of the styles that inspired this trend from the decade before; in the US. Early glam rock and David Bowie rang a bell for me. “Everything old becomes new again” seems to apply here.

Visual Kei

Any other styles or trends do you want to see make another swing through pop culture?

Tuesday Musing: P2P Filesharing and You

Tue, Aug 4, 2009

STDsWith all the trials and tribulations going on in regard to P2P, it make me ponder:

a) How many people don’t understand that when you hit “share my shit” on LimeWire, that your files will be available to the masses?

b) How many people still get on LimeWire and not expect to get the internet’s version of herpies?

c) How many government employees fall into either of these categories?

d) If the number in C is high… are we doomed?

Tuesday Musing: You Talkin to Me?

Tue, Jun 23, 2009

I walked past a woman on my way in to work. She begins with a bright cheery “Hello there,” as I kept walking. She was, of course, talking into a Bluetooth earpiece. This immediately sparked an image into my mind:

wall-e

Have we already started to become so encapsulated? Are we already conditioned to tune out those around us, due in part, to our mobile technologies?

What do you think?

(NOTE: This is the first installment of our “Monday Musing.” From time to time we will bring up a new random thought we would like to get our readers feedback on. Debate, discuss, and have fun!)
