360px-Gameboy

Congratulations to Nintendo for getting their Game Boy inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.  I remember the first time I saw one of these bad boys. I couldn’t believe my eyes while watching my next door neighbor play Super Mario Land. I kept thinking to myself. Wow. This is Nintendo! But this is Nintendo that you can walk around with. Amazing!

The Game Boy has laid down the ground work for every advanced mobile gaming device and deserves this place in history.

Full press release past the break. (more…)

Exclusive Interview: Peter Cooper from Operation Chastity

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

Peter Cooper - Credits Ben Smith

After a bit of small talk, and an introduction as to what Operation Chastity is all about, we got down to learning more about the film. Past the break is a transcript of the interview or you can listen to it below. We learn from Peter how and when he started this film project to the latest news about it.  Oh and btw.  Yes, I sound like I just woke up in the beginning because, yes.  I did just wake up at 9am Sunday for this interview.

i7: How and when did you start this project?

PC: It was actually around June or July 2008. That was when I took out a medium sized loan to get some camera equipment. It was actually going to be a project based on the Doom comic. I’m not sure if you have ever seen that, but it’s absolutely hilarious. But then we ended up scrapping that project because it wasn’t going anywhere.

But for the past 3 years, I’ve been visiting Dragon Con to hang out with my buddies and over a quiet a few beers, I was sat there with lots and lots of napkins and started drawing out Halo Warthogs. I thought, how can I build one?

So, really this whole thing started as an excuse for a really, really cool car.

I came back from America still wanting this Warthog and contacted a few engineers to figure out how to get this made. Everyone at the special effects studio I was working at was wondering “why are you doing this?” and “what purpose is this going to serve?”

i7: Well it’s because you wanted you’re own warthog.

Transcript continues past the break with 2 exclusive photos straight from Peter. (more…)

Wednesday Warcraft – Blizzard drops the ball, twice.

Wed, Nov 4, 2009

Are we going backwards here, Blizzard?  Are we going from the realm of excellent customer care and the industry standard business model, to the polar opposites in such a short order?

WoW, the 1989 edition!

WoW, the 1989 edition!

This week’s post is going to be short and sweet, because I am none too pleased with Blizzard this week.  Yes, me, who usually tows the Blizzard line even if the decisions are questionable.  But these two gaffes are just too much for me to be quiet about.  The first, people know about.  The second is something they seem to be doing to a select few of us.

Blizzard Micro-Transactions have begun

Wed, Nov 4, 2009

Screen shot 2009-11-04 at 1.40.47 PM

We all saw this coming. The next step in Blizzards’ plot to take over the world, or at least your salary. Blizzard micro-transactions using their new Battle.net platform.  Today Blizzard has added 2 new items to their online store for World of Warcraft players.  Two new in-game pets.  A mini Kel’Thuzad and Pandaren Monk for $10 each.

Some people are acting like this micro-transaction thing is new to WoW when in fact, it’s not.  It’s just presented in a different way.  Instead of going through the official World of Warcraft site, it goes through Battle.net.  Blizzard already has a bunch of paid for services like server transfer, name changing, sex changes, race changes and faction changes.

Are any of our readers planning on buying one or both of these new in-game pets? Or are you one of those than can resist these two new cute vanity items.

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ – “Like you’re cutting lettuce” [Video]

Tue, Nov 3, 2009

The video above doesn’t show much gameplay or gives you any hints as to the tracks that are on the game but gives you the history of the company that is making the game.  Most DJs know the name Numark and Akai, but to us regular geek folk that might be buying the game, those two names mean nothing to us.  Names like Activision and Harmonix mean more.

After playing DJ Hero a lot, I think scratch will have decent sales with their game.  It looks just like DJ Hero but with a few more buttons that aren’t on the turntable.  I foresee it being a competitor just like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. But it’ll all come down to music tracks.  DJ Hero has a lot of tracks I’m in love with, but Numark defintely has connections to more of the hip-hop community.

What do you guys think? Will this new game live up to the standards DJ Hero has laid down?

Full press release after the break. (more…)
