A blog that lives up to its’ name

The Dullest Blog in the world is very…. dull.  Here is an example post:

Tying my shoelace…

November 14th, 2003

The lace on one of my shoes was undone. I knelt down, took the two ends of the lace in my hand and tied them together. Having tied my lace I stood up again.

“Engineer credit to team!” – Team Fortress 2 update

The official TF2 blog has finally announced plans for the next major patch/update

  • Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
  • Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
  • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
  • We’ve made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.

Dumb MySpacers

Hey MySpace users. Did you know that once a photo goes up on your MySpace, even though you leave your profile on “private” the photos can still go public? Ya. It’s called sharing on the internet. But then again, taking a bubble bath in your KFC employers sink isn’t any smarter either. Enjoy unemployment.

Thumbtack, copy/paste web app by… Microsoft?!

<br/><a href="http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?vid=6a905d98-0332-4c3f-8b25-75737cd9b675" target="_new" title="Thumbtack Introduction">Video: Thumbtack Introduction</a>

What a cool looking web app. It’s basically a copy/paste web app for anything you see on the web. I might just start using it. It seems very useful, especially for bloggers. But, wait. It’s by Microsoft?! Hmm… if they keep this up, maybe there is still room left in my heart for them.

Apple working on multidimensional desktop?

3D virtual desktop

3D virtual desktop

A patent application unearthed by Mac Rumours points to Apple implementing a true 3D virtual desktop. The rather detailed patent covers all sorts of ideas for creating a virtual 3D dimension in your standard desktop with attachment of program or file icons to the sides of the screen and 3D lighting effects showing influence over programs and documents. A real time physics engine is also included allowing icons to fall from the walls should they be displaced. I certainly would like to hurl something at the trash bin rather than just delete sometimes, it might be satisfying to see that piece of malware squelch against your virtual wall and slide into the bin. It’s interesting to note that with this much detail it is unlikely that this is just a flight of fancy from Cupertino and may very well see the light of day.

Google to buy out NYTimes?

We all love Google and their products.  We carelessly trust and give them all of our personal information.  Addresses (Google Maps), phone numbers (Goog-411), credit/debit cards (Google checkout), and personal mail (gmail).  Now, with this new rumor, looks like they are just trying to take over the media world. Which is, I guess, okay with me.

The new rumor is that Google might be buying out the New York Times newspaper.  Now being a geek, we all know that news on paper is not the way to get news anymore.  RSS feeds is where it’s at.  Now that more and more people are trusting their news source from the internet, the old newspaper medium isn’t getting as much love (or as much money) as before.  Hopefully this rumor will come true and help NYTimes out in some way.

Hey, it helped out a lot of other companies that they gobbled up.

LittleBigPlanet – Heavy Metal Mullet Planet!

YouTube Preview Image

I saw this advert on TV the other day (finally Sony doing something about advertising the PS3 properly in the UK), of a community level titled Heavy Metal Mullet Planet. The name is pretty self explanatory but by watching the advert and playing the level you really get a sense of what is possible in MediaMolecule’s creation. LittleBigPlanet for those who haven’t opened their hearts to Sackboy yet, is all about stupid, rediculous and excellent fun. The kind of fun you used to have as a kid, without motive or consequence. That in essense is what makes LBP so fun to play. Watch the ad (you can even see it in YouTubeHD!) and if you’ve hesitated to get in on the LBP action this might convince you.

Mercedes-Benz Splitview Command Display for S-Class

Crash waiting to happen?

Crash waiting to happen?

Although this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a display technology that allows two different images to be displayed on one screen concurrently only visible from the correct viewing angles, but this is the first time that it’s been put into a production vehicle. The Mercedes-Benz Splitview Command Display allows the driver and the front seat passenger to view the same display but with two different images. This means as you’re ardiously trying to navigate your way through the traffic with the help of your trusty GPS, your passenger can be watching a movie or the latest episode of Desperate Housewives, trying not to be distracting. The problem I can forsee with this system is that if your passenger bursts into laughter next to you, it’s only going to cause an accident when you crane your neck across to see what she’s pissing herself over.
