The Best Books of 2015

Whelp, it’s that time of year again. Time to look back on fifty-two weeks of book reviews and decide which ones were our favorites. Not gonna lie here, this was a tough decision. Even when ruling out anything that was published before 2015, there were still more than a dozen books that fell into the “best” category, and picking just three apiece feels unfair to the ones that didn’t make it into the top three. The solution? A ton of honorable mentions and, wherever possible, cheat.

The Villainous Lair’s Best Comics of 2013

Happy New Years Comic Fans,

This year  has been an amazing year for comics. On behalf of the Villainous Lair we bring to you in no particular order the ten “best”  titles of 2013. These spectacular titles run the gamut from main stream Marvel and DC superhero staples to newer independent titles brought to us by many up and comers as well. Many of these titles should come as no surprise because of the writers and artists involved in them for example, who hasn’t heard of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead ? But for us, every one of these titles has been nothing short of amazing for the stories they have told. This year has brought a few surprises as well, Terry Moore who is known for his highly acclaimed Strangers in Paradise has taken an amazing and dark turn into the supernatural with his newest  offering Rachel Rising. Image comics has had hit after hit this year and Brian K Vaughn’s Saga is no exception.

The following titles will prove to be both interesting and compelling reads. I am filled with awe and reverence for this wonderful hobby called comic collecting. I also look forward to the coming year of ground breaking titles. Whether you are a casual reader or a dyed in the wool comic aficionado you will find something fun and interesting to read on this list. As of this posting Stan the Man Lee has celebrated his 91’st birthday and I wish him so many more for helping to bring all of our favorite comic characters to life and into the main stream. Excelsior Stan, Excelsior!

Elizabeth’s Top Five Books of 2013

When I look at all the science-fiction/fantasy books published in 2013, I tend to shake my fist at the bookshelves: there’s not enough hours in the day! I want to read all the books! I barely scratched the surface!

Out of all the books I did read that were published in 2013, the following five stood out in my mind as the best.

(If you’re wondering why your favorite’s not on the list, it’s most likely because I didn’t get a chance to read it. It’s also possible that I read it and didn’t like it, but that doesn’t sound nearly so nice. We’ll go with the first explanation.)

Movie Issues: Top Movies of 2013

Earlier this year it could have been said that the movies of 2013 weren’t great, but after going back and relooking over the films that did come out, it turns out 2013 wasn’t full of terrible films. There were a couple here and there, but overall not terrible movies, just a year full of disappointments more so. A lot of the huge blockbusters failed to deliver on what the filmmakers promised or what the trailers looked like they’d give us. For example: Man of Steel. Not a terrible movie for some, but just ok overall. It had all the right pieces to the puzzle, but for some reason some of those pieces didn’t fit. It’s nothing compared to the bomb that The Lone Ranger was, but just a year full of ups and downs really.

J.Bear’s Top 10 Video Games of 2013

The end of the year is finally upon us. It feels like just yesterday we were booting up copies of Telltale’s “The Walking Dead”, “Far Cry 3”, “Borderlands 2”, and “Mass Effect 3”. But here we are, 2013 is coming to a close.

This year has been one of the best year’s in gaming, not only were we treated to some of the best titles to ever come out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. We also took our first steps into the next generation of consoles with the PS4 and Xbox One. Though technically, the WiiU is a part of the next generation of consoles, it, unfortunately, is still struggling.

But nevermind all of that! This is about 2013, and the games that came out during this amazing year. But before we get into the meat and potatoes, here’s a quick disclaimer:

Note: The games that appear on this list solely reflect my experiences with said games. This list is completely based on the games I’ve played this year. Games that I did not play, will not show up on this list. So if your personal favorite games don’t show up on here, thems’ the breaks.

Now, on with the list!
