Make us jealous. What did you get?

It’s the morning of Christmas.  We know that Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of religion, giving and family.  But, the main reason is really for receiving. So tell us. Did any of you get anything good? Let us know in the comments below.

I personally got a 1TB Western Digital External Drive, Best Buy gift card and food.

The best Christmas present reaction

YouTube Preview Image

This has got to be the most down to earth and most appreciative kid I’ve seen.  Too many times have I seen or dealt with kids that act like homeless people.  When they get something, they say thank you and immediately ask for more.  But the kid in the above video understands that one gift is enough.  Even after opening 2 presents, he just couldn’t believe that his parents paid for it all and shows how appreciative he is.

Merry Christmas everyone and be happy with what you get tonight. Yes, even if it’s a damn snuggie.

Guitar Hero Christmas Lights [Video]

YouTube Preview Image

Engineers and DIY-ers have come a long way with Christmas lights.  I remember when I watched the first Christmas lights decoration that was synced to music on YouTube. Just like everyone else, I thought it was an amazing Idea. Now, Ric Turner, former Disney Imagineer (Engineer for the imagination), has one upped that old video with Lights, Music and a Guitar Hero controller.

Christmas Light Hero is using 7 light controllers from Light-O-Rama built from kits to control 21,268 lights and LEDs. Each controller has 16 outputs and 2-3 TTL level control inputs that are used by the game system to fire different programmed light sequences depending on what happens in the game. It relies on the fact that the game sequence is very consistent. If the game and the lighting sequences start together, they will stay in very good sync through the length of the song. The light program allows branching and overlays for fail, star power and “ready.” I have some ideas to automate the initial show/game sync, but for now you have to push doorbell buttons at the right mom

oled-christmas-tree

Christmas will soon be upon us and for most of is it’s time to hit the shops and bag those choice gifts for your loved ones. It can be tough to know what to choose from the plethora of equally exciting (or not) trinkets, so I’ve put together a range of gifts to suit your that Tech obsessed person in your life.

$5-$10 range

panic-button_mainThe panic button, the only key that’s missing from modern keyboards and you can add that special key to any keyboard, phone, TV, controller, Boss or Mother-in-Law you like with the cheap and cheerful Panic Button! OK, the button doesn’t actually do anything but it’s comedic value is enough to bring a smile to any keyboard jockey’s face, so if you know of someone who’s just a little glued to their keyboard, bring a little hilarity to the holiday season for the bargain price of $5 (£2.99) from IWOOT.com.

Holiday Gift Giving: The Shopping Guide 09

christmas_header

With the Christmas season upon us it’s time for Gift Giving. Though it seems that it can be taxing for most people to figure out what to give. Especially in terms of those that are a little more Tech Savy then most. Here’s a helpful list that can make the Gift Giving season just a little easier.

Tips for Holiday Shopping.

1. Be sure to shop around. Start with the Internet (Amazon) and then work your way to a store.

2. Be sure you know the Stores Policy. Best Buy for an example has a Price Matching policy that comes in handy if you find their prices to be a little much for the holidays.

3. CYA: Research the person your getting stuff for. It always pays to be knowledgeable especially for those tech folk.

4. Don’t shy away from Gift Cards. When you don’t know what to get sometimes a Gift Card can come in to save the day.

My 2009 Geeky X-Mas Wish List: Now With 20% More “Running for Your Life”

Geekmas 2009

Our wizened leader noted that we should get together a wish list of geeky, yet personally desired gifts for the X-Mas season. While I thought this would be an easy task, I found myself hard pressed to find anything under $50 that I actually wanted. Fortunately, Google helped me narrow down my options based on a well thought out and fully planned search query: “I’m going to get drunk, hide and watch anime when the zombies finally come for me.”

Stewie GlassIn the $5 to $10 range I found a rather funny Stewie-Motivator themed drinking glass. Think what you want about the show, but damnit… this wisdom doesn’t get any worse with age. “Motivate: Nothing says ‘Obey me’ like a bloody head on a post.” Too true, too true…

Lego Rock Band Coming This Holiday Season

lego_rock_band

Rock Band will get just a little bit cuter this holiday season.  With Lego Rock Band, you’ll be able to “Build and Rock the Universe.”  Just like customizing your character in Rock Band, you’ll be able to customize your minifig as well as the rest of your band, entourage, roadies, managers and crew. Everything about Lego Rock Band is geared towards a more family-friendly experience.

Here are a couple of confirmed songs that will be on the game:

  • Blur: “Song 2”
  • Carl Douglas: “Kung Fu Fighting”
  • Europe: “The Final Countdown”
  • Good Charlotte: “Boys and Girls”
  • Pink: “So What”

Not sure what type of “new” experience Lego Rock Band will bring to the table besides the cute factor.  Also, I’m hoping “family-friendly” doesn’t mean that the real song’s lead singer will be replaced by a bunch of kids in a studio:
