Hero Initiative and Dark Horse Comics Unveil ‘The HELLBOY 100’

The Hero Initiative, the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need, unveiled its latest project today: The HELLBOY 100, in collaboration with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Dark Horse Comics. To create the HELLBOY 100, Dark Horse Comics printed 100+ blank covers of the landmark first issue of Hellboy & the BPRD: 1952, written by Mignola and John Arcudi and featuring the art of Alex Maleev with colors by Dave Stewart.

The Hero Initiative then commissioned internationally renowned comic book artists to do an original drawing on each cover, including Gabriel Bá, John Cassaday, Fábio Moon, Eric Powell, Bill Sienkiewicz and Mignola himself. The originals will be auctioned off via eBay.com at the rate of approximately 10 per week for 10 weeks. Both hardcover and softcover editions of a book collecting all the covers will published by Dark Horse Comics in September, 2015.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is TOMORROW!!

FREE COMIC BOOKS! FRREEEEE!!

It’s that time of the year once again, like a second Easter or at least a third Christmas, comic shops everywhere are stacking their racks with a smörgåsbord of comics free to anyone interested in one of America’s greatest creations. Since its creation in May of 2002 Free Comic Book Day (FBCD) has brought the entire industry together with special editions issues of comics with the intent of bringing in new readers, as well as giving a special thanks to the current readers with something extra in their weekly stacks. Each year the event brings more and more people to brick and mortar shops and recently even to the newly-growing world of digital comics.

This year the geeky holiday coincides with the release of Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and previous FCBDs have celebrated the release of other comic book films like Spider-man, Iron Man, and the first Avengers film, but oddly never a DC film. Within recent years the major publications have also been using the day to help promote their next big event, like this year’s Secret Wars and 2012’s AvX.

Review – ApocalyptiGirl: An Aria For the End Times

It’s difficult to describe ApocalyptiGirl: An Aria For the End Times. It’s dark and violent and depressing. But also hopeful. It’s about the end of days and what comes after that. It’s about how humanity can reach their darkest point and sometimes stay just as ugly and hateful as they’ve always been, that no matter how many chances they’re been given they’ll still prefer a fist over an open hand.

It’s also about a girl and her cat. And it’s lovely.
